Read on to see what that one weird trick was. It's not entirely clickbait.
Yesterday, I released Learn German Numbers to the App Store. It's a simple app designed to help German language learners practice saying and understanding the numbers.
Well, it has already made $2! πΎ
Yes, it doesn't seem like much, but it's something.
You see, I came up with the idea for the app just two weeks ago and decided to write it on a whim. It was a fun distraction for me, so making any money on it, even a small amount, feels good. (My previous app took a half a year of my spare time to build, in comparison!!)
I also did something a little different in this app that I haven't seen anyone do before in an app. (Here's that one weird trick.) I made it a pay-what-you-can model.
When you go to pay to unlock the remaining features in the app, it will ask you to pick one of three price points you'd like to pay. All price points unlock the same content.
I figured I could actually make more money this way by making the pricing flexible. If you don't have much, just pay the smallest amount. If you have a bit more money to throw around, pick the highest price point. My theory is that 1) it will make the app affordable, increasing the number of people who would actually pay, and 2) people will voluntarily pick the middle price point and not the lowest one.
So how much did this first customer pay? Did they go for the lowest price point?
Nope, they chose the middle one. They could've just given me the bare minimum, but they didn't. This is only the first sale, of course, so this experiment has just begun!
