I made $200 launching my AI product - Day 1

Hi! My name is Tiago Rodrigues, and yesterday (February 2nd, 2023) I launched my first AI-powered product.

I initially created Komandi for my use, and without AI support.

I'm a developer, and I'm always running some repeated commands on the command line. For example, whenever I have to access one of my servers, I need a command like:

ssh -i ~/.ssh/my_key [email protected]

Of course, I can use the search from the terminal (CTRL + R usually), but I never remember exactly what the IP of each server is (this is just about SSH, but it happens with several other commands that I use daily).

So I decided to create software that would allow me to quickly register, search and execute commands in two or three steps. And then came Komandi.

Initially, there was no AI integration, but I realized that I'm also always looking for new commands in addition to always running the same commands. And then came the idea: why not put a screen where I can ask for a feature, and Komandi returns the correct command using AI?

I did some quick tests with GPT-3, and after some tweaks, I liked the result.

I liked it so much that I decided to turn Komandi into a product.

I launched the first version yesterday (February 2nd, 2023), and so far, there have been almost $200 in sales (the values below are in BRL, which today are worth around 0.20 dollars).

revenue

I believe I could have sold more if I had planned the launch better and had a trial version from the beginning (which I did in the middle of the launch, in the middle of the rush).

But as it was a product developed in my spare time, since I'm developing version 2 of one of my main products, Vemto, I'm satisfied with the result. Also, I gained experience with GPT-3, which I plan to integrate into Vemto v2.

Conclusion

From what I learned from this project, GPT-3 (or another AI of its kind) can be of great benefit when used to leverage an existing application. In the case of Komandi (and also Vemto), both work fine on their own without the need for AI. But AI is like the icing on the cake, which brings something extra to the software and enhances its daily use.

Today whenever I need a new command, I ask Komandi to generate it and then run it (just yesterday, I wanted a command to show the last commit message of a GIT repository, and I didn't even bother opening the browser to search).

If you're interested, you can look for me on Twitter. I'm constantly posting about coding and development of my products there (and nothing else haha): @Tiago_Ferat

Thanks for listening

Congrats! Have you done a lot of marketing for this?

I built and AI tool as well (Evoke), and I've been marketing it like crazy pre-launch for months lol.

Thank you @RichardGao, Evoke seems awesome!! I didn't do much marketing for Komandi, but I'm going to start taking some actions in sequence to improve the number of hits to the site. I'm still not quite sure what to do, I'll try it out

Congratulations! Looks very solid. May I ask what stack you used for Komandi?

Thank you, @golden, I used Javascript + Electron and TailwindCSS

Woah that's incredible congrats! I'm just getting started and am stuck with like 1 customer on my product haha. How do you market it?

For now, I just posted it on some places (Twitter, ProductHunt, and IndieHackers) and emailed my Vemto customers (this was a great source of initial traction).
