I made a book📕 of 70,000 baby girl names.

Hey fellow indie-hackers! 🥁

I made a single-list of baby girl names from the records of last 100 years and compiled a book of alphabetically sorted 70,000 unique names.

We are expecting a girl in the next few days and I found it was surprisingly hard to decide on a name for our baby. I think all parents go through this pain.

Most of the resources online talk about only the popular names or celebrity names or what is in trend within a community. And this trend makes it super hard to avoid the groupthink. We found that an ideal approach is to just list a few alphabets that you and your spouse like, and then parse through all the possibilities that begin with those alphabets.

It worked for us!

I know a bunch of indie-hackers who are about to become new parents, so this book is hopefully gonna be helpful to some of us for sure. The full manuscript of the book is open source and can be forked and PR'ed for new suggestions.

And here is the codex book itself → Baby Girl Names 📕

Awesome work! And even cooler that it helped you pick a name!

Congrats on the baby girl ♥️

Can I ask what name you guys landed on?

    70,000 names is crazy!

      Thank you @lesleypizza!

We decided on the name Zuvy for our daughter. It's pretty much at the end of this book. 🙂

I name my daughter who is arriving in 5 weeks Avery. I sent this list to a friend who hasn't named his baby girl yet and he is overwhelmed by all the names lol!

Avery is a beautiful name @kevon. Congratulations for your newborn! ❤️

"Freakonomics" by Stephen J. Dubner and Steven Levitt has a chapter on names that is worth reading, if you haven't already. There are a lot of trends involved and names are often cyclical.

Oh yeah, I also watched a Ted talk on this subject. Thanks for referring! 🤟🏻

    Very cool.

Just out of curiosity, what made you want to do this?

    Are you monetizing at all?

Congrats on the baby girl! Best wishes.

Thank you for the kind words @jamison. ❤️

I am not monetizing this book directly but I do have a Github Sponsorship page where patrons can support my work:

Thats awesome! Will we have to wait for the Boy Version until little Zuvy gets a little brother? 😅

😂 ...Happy to do a boy version of the book without waiting for one. 🤟🏻
