I made a gadget because I kept forgetting my son’s medication (and my own supplements)

Years ago my son had a grand mal seizure. It was the most terrifying moment of my life. The doctors were clear: his anti-seizure medication has to be taken at the same time every single day. Missing even one dose dramatically raises the risk.

I set phone alarms, used every pill-box-with-timer I could find, stuck Post-it notes everywhere… but I still forgot. Sometimes I’d walk right past the bottle on the counter and only remember an hour later.

The same thing was happening with my own daily supplements (I’d buy them, take them for a few days, then let the bottle gather dust).

So I made the simplest thing I could think of: a smart medication shelf that tracks movement.
To remind you, I've added pulsing green light that stays on until medication is taken.
If medication is not taken, there's additional beeps to get your attention.
If lights and beeps don't work, Nudge sends an email to caregiver(s).

It worked great. Has an additional benefit of synchronizing my son's doses between me and my spouse. I can tell by looking at the light if the dose was already give.

Years later and we haven’t missed a single dose. His levels have stayed stable, and we haven’t had another seizure.

I originally made about 30 units for family and a few parents in the same situation. Word traveled slowly through epilepsy and parenting groups. A couple of months ago I finally set up a proper site so I could ship to anyone who asked.
Current numbers (still very small, but real):
