I am obsessed by mindmaps: I do them for many things I read (books or articles) to summarize them and be able to come back to it later, in order to strength the knowledge I acquired.
A mindmap is very visual: you can hide the part you don't want to see and only review what you want to review.
It works pretty well to really study and learn many things (by reviewing the mindmaps often), not only reading stuff and forgetting afterward. You can create flashcards from them as well, for example.
I have right now 124 mindmaps in what I call my "knowledge base", which is awesome.
As an example, here's the mindmap for Getting Real I finished last week. You can open it using the free software freemind. It took me a bit more than two hours to do it.
I could give away every single one of them, but I think mindmaps should be something personal : you learn a lot while doing them and the way you do it should reflect how you learn and what you want to learn.
Some weeks ago, I had the idea to build a whole mindmap system which could be used as a second brain. I thought about:
This would be the MVP. Then I have other ideas:
I think it would be open source at first, with a payed version to synchronize the mindmaps. I know it's a lot of works, but I'm really interested by the idea.
What do you think? Do you know anybody (communities, professions...) which could be interested?
I love mindmaps and use them for different purposes. The product you described already exists, it's called TheBrain: https://www.thebrain.com/
The only problem with this product it's a desktop app. I don't really know if I would use some more advanced than what I'm using now (free MindMup).
Good luck!
I didn't know TheBrain. Thanks for that!
No interest in plain text mindmap? Something like this but more complete?
The point for me would be to own really my mindmaps and be able to export them to another system supporting the same format. A bit like markdown.
Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for your comment!
Publicly? You mean sharing the mindmaps I do? I don't really see the value people could have since, as I said, it's something pretty personal. I don't write everything but only the important things I don't know, which is of course different for everybody.
Why would you not recommend this direction?

These are very good points, thanks a lot for your comments! You're right, I always thought about creating community from nothing, but I doubt it would work. With my mindmaps, I have something to show.
I really like your comment about passion over content, that's something I never really thought about...
