I made a Product Hunt alternative
Hi there, it's been a while 👋🏻
I've been working on Uneed for 4 years now. I've got pretty decent and regular traffic, but I decided a few months ago to transform the website into a launch platform, to compete with Product Hunt.
Why?
You may have heard about it on social networks, or you may have experienced it yourself: Product Hunt isn't what it used to be, and it's becoming easier and easier not only to reach the top 3, but also to be featured on the home page.
To top it all off, Product Hunt never communicates about its strategic choices. We don't know what they intend to do, why they don't fight the bots, how they choose which products to feature, and so on.
It's for all these reasons that Uneed exists today.
How?
Uneed is similar to product hunt, but differs in several ways:
Every day, a maximum of 10 products are launched. This major difference ensures minimum visibility even for those who don't have a highly developed audience.
Everyone is featured, and knows their launch date in advance.
Uneed is run by a single person. I don't raise funds, I don't have external constraints, I don't have salaries to pay. In short, I don't need bots.

This new version is still very recent, and may contain bugs. I do my best to reply to all messages and improve the site every day 🙏🏻.

You've nailed it – Product Hunt is starting to feel like Batman's Gotham! We're seeing the same diminishing returns after 4 launches. Still, it's good for building awareness (which helps SEO), but backlinks and finding by strong newsletters are the true superpowers for boosting rankings.

And as far as I know, a huge part of my audience are founders and tech people. The best move would be to try to launch the product and see how it goes 😄

We don't have a guide yet, and not a lot of criteria 😄. It must be a digital product, with a landing page, in English.

Having launched on Product Hunt a couple times, your UX of queued launch with allocated launch date (and pay to skip line) is pretty cool solution. Question on that, do you reserve a spot or 2 (from the maximum 10) for the paid launches? Or are paid launches additional to the 10? As I'm thinking as you grow a free launcher might get bumped to a future date.
Product Hunt limits subsequent launches from the same company for minor version releases, you have to be launching a very major change.

I oscillate between 10 and 15 free products a day maximum, I'm not sure of the final number yet... 😅. I'll have to see how the waiting line is evolving to make a definitive choice.
But in any case, the number of paying products is 5 max per day :).

When login with Google i see: "to continue to apcdouatoejrvwoqevfc supabase co", would be better to see the real domain where I came to, no this one. A bit scary for me :)
Hey :) I don't think I can change this domain name as I use supabase to handle the authentication flow

Actually, there is no issue with login ( except that long domain :) ). I have issue with logout, and yes still keep me logged in when i click on logout menu item

When I log out, nothing happens, it keeps me logged in.
