I made a simple browser app to make calls internationally for cheap
I am sure many people has dealt with this but when I was traveling a couple years ago (was in Istanbul at the time), I needed to call my bank back home.
I checked my roaming plan first and saw it would cost £30+ for 10 mins. I thought I was being smart by setting up Skype instead, which worked pretty well for a while, but now they’re shutting it down...
So, I got annoyed and ended up building a simple web app for myself. Basically something that lets you call any number from your browser without a SIM or roaming (like Skype).
Also, let's you verify your caller ID so your calls can seem like they come from your actual number. So when you’re calling your bank or government office, it actually shows YOUR number and they don’t think it’s spam.
It's nothing fancy, but it works. Pay as you go pricing with no subscriptions and every new user gets free call credit to make a call (sort of like a free trial)
I called it Dialvia.
If you're traveling and need to call home sometimes, might save you a bit of money + hassle. Dropping this here just in case if there are any expats or travellers might be interested in it :)
Would love to see this as someone living abroad and needing to frequently call banks back home! Was using Skype and have been looking for an alternative since it went down.
