I made a simple website a year ago...

Hello 👋

I made this simple website (mailxto.com) a year ago in the hope to help people create a prefilled email with to, subject, and body fields that can be turned into a short link, which makes it easy to share it on social media and embed it to your website.

Mailxto doesn't do much at this stage & I've not done any updates since the first release.

I recently started looking at statics of my website & it turns out a lot of people are actually using the site and even big companies like Godaddy, FreeCodeCamp, Payara, NFM & others. I've tried to mention some of them on my website.

I got a little excited and decided to add some useful features and started working on Version 2.

It would be great if you take a look at mailxto.com and suggest some features & I would like to hear your inputs.

Thanks.

Here are some of the features I'm working on.

    • Signup/Login
    • Custom Link ID (Mailxto is basically like a url shortener but for a mailto protocol)
    • Analytics for mailto clicks
    • Edit mailto contents (recipient, body, subject)
    • Additional fields (cc and bcc)
    • Allow users to compose emails through gmail, yahoo and outlook (currently it automatically redirect users to their default mail client app).

One extra feature a mailto homepage with multiple links for different queries.

On that page can also add gmail, yahoo and outlook buttons for each link.

Adding a feature called "Instant Redirect", when it's turned off users will be able to compose mails with other email clients as well. It's basically what you mentioned above.

My thinking was more around the multiple links.

That would be useful for larger companies and they might be willing to pay to unlock that feature.

Wooow, you just validated your product, congrats!

    some brainstorming ideas could be:

    • a script users can add to their site/web-app so people can use your service from their site
    • templates? 🤷🏻‍♀️

      Thanks for comments, Vector.
Can you please explain the "script" thing? :)

Amazing, I think Analytics and something to be able to compose 2 - 3 mail at the same time would be amazing

      Thanks for the suggestion,
It's not clear what you mean by compose 2 -3 mail at the same time.
Are you referring to the recipient field?

      1. 1

Yeah, so we can compose an email to more than 1 recipient

Congrats on the success! It sounds like mailxto was 'set-it-and-forget-it' - guessing a lot of your traffic came from word-of-mouth and links. Wondering what your early marketing was like that helped gain initial traction?
    Best of luck going forward!

      Thanks you.
On the marketing side, I really didn’t do much beside adding the product to PH and Betalist.

Hello, an additional page with some screenshots and examples would be nice … cool idea

      Hello Navinp,
      If I understand this right,
You mean an additional where it shows what the site do and use cases as well?

      1. 2

Yeah, a “what is this about page” and some examples… I had to read this post a few times to understand what it does, but the idea is nice

          Thanks,
This will clear up confusion about the site.

I agree with @Navinp, also maybe a problem/solution statement as a heading might be nice. Like in a few words say what problem you're addressing and how your tool solves it. Congrats on the surprise success 😊
