Back in May 2020, I was unhappy with most online whiteboards, so I made my own. It got a bit of traction and a few passionate users, so I worked on it with a friend alongside my day job and eventually started an LLC.
Now it's 2 years later, my friend didn't stick around, and I definitely don't have the energy to maintain it. I haven't looked at the code in months, and every time I think about even checking the stats I feel anxious. The LLC means my taxes are more complicated, making it a yearly stressor.
So, I think it's time to scale it back or shut it down. The trouble is, I know a bunch of my users are educators who rely on it to teach their students, and I would feel guilty taking this tool away from them.
I actually don't mind keeping it up, since it costs less than $40/mo to run, but the image hosting feature is risky to keep around, since it's an abuse vector. That's a shame because images are useful.
I think my options are:
I think I'm going to go with option 4, but I needed to think out loud a bit and see if anyone has anything to say about this. And, uh, anyone want to take this whiteboard app off my hands?
