I made an open source Chrome extension to notify you of new HackerNews replies.

One of the issues with HackerNews is that it is difficult to know when someone has replied to your post or comment. This extension makes it easy by showing you the latest replies to your thread while you were away!

    Great idea, well done Anand

Awesome! I post to HackerNews regularly as well and I can't tell when someone responds and it often gets lost.

There's a very popular project for many years which is used by many, does exactly that and works from all devices even when your browser is not running. Any reason why you decided not to use it?

Well, emails often get lost among several hundred other unopened items. I’m a fan of keeping all important messages/alerts within the app/website. (Reddit’s bell is an example).

With this extension, Whenever I visit HN, I’ll clearly know what all things happened to my conversations while I was away. Simple!

Fair enough, I have a very email centric workflow so I might be biased.

Yes, I'd rather use this (which I do) instead of installing yet another extension.

If you like to know how I built this service in Node.js, here is the article - https://engagespot.co/blog/building-chrome-extension-send-hackernews-notifications

Can you make something similar for the IH community?

IndieHackers already have an in-built bell. But yea, the UX is not that great. It should have been placed on the header itself and should open in one click.

Not sure if I can make something similar for IH since they don't have the necessary APIs for that.
