I made it to the front page of Reddit!

Last month I started a data visualization blog, with plans to build an audience and perhaps publish an ebook some day. To build my audience I've been posting once a week or so, mainly on r/dataisbeautiful. Today I posted a 30 second animation of last week's stock market volatility done in Javascript and D3, and it really took off (20,000 upvotes in ~4 hours):

One thing I've learned is that creating content is a lot like making lottery tickets. I had posted a similar visualization a couple weeks ago and it garnered some attention in other communities, but much less on r/dataisbeautiful. You really need to be persistent in order to eventually see good timing, luck and quality content all aligning at once.

    Congrats!

Not sure if you're wanting / interested in feedback but I spotted that your homepage is missing a title tag so it just shows the url in the address bar.

I saw your visualization there. I wanted to ask what did you use but now I got the answer.

Great stuff! I just checked out several visualizations on your blog and bookmarked a couple that I think my stock-trading friends will find interesting. It would be great if you added <title> tags to your site, as that determines the default label of each bookmark. Looking forward to more visualizations!

This is insane. Keep your Google Analytics / other analytics dashboard open and enjoy the traffic. :)
