I made the Hacker News archive browsable by year, month and climb speed. Free, no login

Been building on top of our own crawler and one of the things I ended up with is a Hacker News archive, so I put it out for free. No login, no account, nothing.

It goes back to 2007 and has 219,072 stories with 27.9M comments on them. You can browse by year and by month, so you can go look at what the front page actually cared about in, say, March 2013, versus what it cares about now.

The part I use the most is fastest rising, because it sorts by how quickly a story climbed rather than where it finished. That is a different list than the top of the day and it shows you the shape of a trend while it is still forming. There is also most argued, which is sorted by comments relative to points, and that one is fun in a different way.

A couple of things that fell out of the data. GitHub is the most linked domain in HN history with 12,979 stories. And 2026 has 24,254 stories so far, against 16 in all of 2007.

It is here: viralhunt.io/hackernews

HN doesnt give you this natively, which is the only reason I built it. If you look at it and something obvious is missing, tell me and I'll add it.
