I mapped every public tariff data source in the US government, so you don't have to

Building dutybird.io taught me more about federal data infrastructure than I ever wanted to know.

Here's what actually exists (and what's useful vs useless):

Federal Register API: real-time rule filings, updates every 6 hours. This is the raw feed. Most people don't know it's public.

USITC HTS API: The actual tariff schedule. Clunky but comprehensive

CBP Cargo Systems Messaging: Advanced notice of enforcement changes. Underated.

Penn Wharton/Hamilton Project: Academic trackers that lag but give context

The gap nobody fills, connecting a small business's actual product list to these feeds, and surfacing only what matters to them. dutybird.io is live and starts at 29/month. Ask. me anything and excited to bring visibility to the community so they don't get burned with shipments too late.

I found the data very interesting, so I even put a country impact board that surfaces what the government collects on tariffs, projections, and even what is reported at the census and border from the data.

This is an insanely thorough piece — the kind of actual utility that most GH posts promise but rarely deliver. Mapping out every public tariff data source like this doesn’t just save time — it saves founders from wasting months chasing fragmented info. That level of clarity is rare and incredibly valuable. 👏
But here’s what most people building data‑driven tools don’t realize until it’s too late: access to data is table stakes — how you translate it into insights that actually solve business problems is where the magic (and adoption) happens. Right now, this feels like a phenomenal research asset — but without clear hooks into real use cases (pricing tools, compliance engines, revenue forecasting, competitor benchmarking), even the best datasets just sit there.
From where I sit helping founders turn raw data into products that stick, there’s a pattern:
    ➡️ Great datasets get built.
    ➡️ They get shared.
➡️ And then they get ignored because users don’t instantly see how it solves their pain.
Bridging that gap is about strategic positioning, UX framing, and outcome‑focused messaging — not just good code. Most creators only realize this after launch… which costs time, engagement, and credibility.
If you want this to go from “incredible reference” to “indispensable tool” in your niche, the next step isn’t more data — it’s strategic presentation. That’s exactly what we help with at Quratulain Creatives: turning deep technical value into product experiences that users actually use (and rave about).
Can’t wait to see how you take this further — the foundation is there, now it’s about activation.
