I need feedback on my tool for collecting feedback 🤭

Just finished my first, very rough version of Capture Giant - a really easy way to create a small feedback widget based around emotions.

You can choose between a bunch of different emojis and name each feedback item whatever you'd like. Then you're given a custom widget URL and private dashboard that only you have access to and you're good to go.

I'm looking for my first 10 users before I build anything else, anyone here have any ideas who could use this or find this idea useful themselves? I'd love to talk about any ideas you have around the product.

You can check it out at https://capturegiant.com.

Looks good, but it doesn't replace my current way of getting feedback. Even for MVP is lacking features that I could get just by using Google Forms.

I like that requires no sing-up, but I need to ask a list of question/feedback items. Also it should be possible to get written feedback, and also client information.

At this point is a glorified pool with emojis.

Though I would definitely use a no sing-up, simple UX, alternative to google forms for feedback.

I'd love to talk more with you if you could see this being something you switch to (Google forms are free though and I do plan on monetizing this down the line so not sure you'd be the correct target either).

I'm happy you like the simple no signup paradigm, I thought it was really convenient and glad you like it too.

Interesting idea. I was slightly confused by the page, too many emjois/CTA buttons. I tried use the link at first, but it said I had to save it first. In that case, shouldn't the save button appear before the links (if that's what you have to do first) ?

    For example:

      I agree with you.

Also, I don't think emoji's are gonna be the best piece of feedback you can get. I think an emoji can be a great start of feedback but for me it would need a follow up question like: 'why did you choose this emoji?', Or something down those lines.

I also created a MVP for a feedback providing site, here it is: viablefeedback.com

      Good luck creating!

Follow up questions are for sure coming, haha, it’s basically the next think on my roadmap.

Awesome feedback, that makes a lot of sense! I'm thinking, based on your feedback, to maybe have a short 2 - 3 sentence explanation of what the product does/is and why you should use it.

Then have the widget designer/creator with the create button. And then in the dashboard I'll give them their dashboard link and the link to share with everyone else.

Were you able to follow that. How does that sound to you?

      1. 1

I am not really in the target audience for a tool like this, so my feedback is mostly technical.

You should also consider offering a way to embed this on a site (so it pop-ups like a feedback form in a corner). But I am not yet sure who your target audience is.

        1. 1

This is for sure on the roadmap but there are plenty of tools for that. I plan on having this be more at the intersection of real life and digital experiences.
So for example: a pizza place can include a QR code on the box for you to scan after you've eaten your pizza to tell you how it was. A hotel can give you a QR code on your receipt when you check out to report on how your stay was.

      2. 1

I would personally not even have a different link for the dashboard, why not have everything on this page?

Also, one more thing, you should save the widget in localStorage, so if I come back later to the root page, by default it loads my previous widget.

        1. 1

Interesting idea about the localStorage but that specifically I don't know if I like so much. I like the idea that for new widgets you just go to the root URL and to edit an old one you go to your dashboard (people could want multiple widgets for different things).

My 2 cents, your landing page is confusing. It feels like everything is screaming for attention and it's not obvious what it does or how to use it.

I have service in similar market (feedback for designers and developers), https://pageproofer.com The one thing I have learned is that it is a highly competitive space. Your offering needs to cut through all the noise and clearly explain what it does and how it helps.

I like that you are focusing on one specific type of feedback. A lot of services out there try to handle it all and don't do a good job. Better to be really focused and really great in one area first.

    Good luck!

I don't see how this will help me when compared to the many alternatives out there. Every week there's a new feedback tool here or on PH and none of them are that well differentiated. I don't know what actions I can take based on feadback that I get from this. If I release a new feature and get more smiley faces you still have to guess why people like it. The signup is pretty frictionless, so props on that. I was surprised that you didn't put a feedback widget on your own site - why is that?

    1. 1

It’s not necessarily made for embedding on websites (although that is something I’ll be adding in the future). That’s why I didn’t put a widget on my site, that’s what the current tools are made for, not mine.

My goal is to target this at people who want to give customers a place to go to answer questions in place of a survey. Right now it starts with just emojis but I’ll be adding follow up actions and events in the future (such as if you’re frustrated, why? Are you happy, let’s send the customer to twitter with a tweet about their great experience and so on, the possibilities are endless).

Ideally it would actually be more for physical businesses to give customers a virtual location to leave feedback. For example: a restaurant after a meal, or a hotel after a stay.

Love the idea and well done! I think 2 musts for us would be:

    • Being able to embed the "form" in our web app (Vue.js)
    • The ability for people to leave text feedback after the emoji click, if they want to.
    1. 1

The text feedback is 100% coming very soon, I’m planning on adding a powerful event and action system allowing you to take the user down different funnels based on their answer and actions as they move along the funnel.

And if this was embeddable/usable in your vue web app, would it be something you’d consider paying for or you’d still be looking for a free alternative in that case?

      1. 1

I am curious to see what's in for the event/action system.

For the use case I understand of this product, I would consider it at 5$, maybe 10$. It definitely depends how actionnable the feedback will become on my side and if my users use it to share feedback. User feedback is a pain point for us, that's for sure.

If you decide the move on with the product, I'd be glad to be a beta tester and see what we can get from it!

        1. 1

I’d love to work together with you to see what your expectations would be for the event/action system. I have a lot of ideas but talking to an actual potential customer would be so valuable if you wouldn’t mind.

I see your twitter in your profile but you don’t seem so active, I’d really appreciate if you could reach out to me at my email: yehuda@hey.com so we could quickly talk through what you’re looking for in this kind of tool.

          1. 1

I sent you an email at the beginning of the week but didn't hear back. Let me know if I can help :)

  6. 1

I really liked it! And can totally see a lot of use cases for this project.. such as embedding a feedback link from your app to an article, post or website!
Looking forward to hear more about it!

    1. 1

I'm glad that you can see use cases for it, I'm really thinking that making it embeddable might do me a lot of good due to all the feedback I've gotten on that aspect so far.

  7. 1

Looks really clean, and I love the magic links to return to view/update.

    Will be following this :)

  8. 1

interesting but needs something to add on a page for context like a popup.

    1. 1

I’ve heard that multiple times now and it’s for sure in the roadmap but I was kind of thinking of starting with more physical businesses. They would share it with a QR code and it would take people to this site to leave feedback.

I’m thinking of maybe adding the pop earlier though cause it’s easier to scale with online businesses than with offline ones.

      1. 1

for me I am tending to go use hotjar for my userfeedback because of the click tracking like crazyegg and the ability to ask indepth questions on certain steps in my app.
the smiley is ok but that doesn't really tell me whether to keep on course or pivot. if you're doing the lean canvas, business model process of running a business.

        1. 1

I hear your feedback loud and clear. I'm planning on adding all that goodness and much more!

Well, not click tracking, but specifically questions and triggers, events and actions are all on the roadmap. I'm not planning on competing with HotJar cause they're way too big and do stuff that I don't want. I'm planning on focusing on simplicity but powerful functionality.

      2. 1

maybe just add a guide would suffice for some people on how to include it. for example create a popover template and show them how to use popperjs to create the popup on hover or click on certain areas or on settimeout().

        1. 1

Very interesting idea, that would be great for SEO as well!

I'm gonna take this article idea and write it up when I have a chance, haha. Thanks so much

Loved the concept behind Capturegiant @yehuda! Keep up the work!

Since your idea is based on collecting feedback, you should definitely check out my product ruttl too!

    1. 1

I've seen your product sometimes. Do you plan starting a blog? If yes, i could provide a solution for that, if you're interested :)

      1. 1

I currently have a blog running on my website @freshWorld but would still love to hear your solution out. Just shoot me a mail on harsh@ruttl.com!

    2. 1

Thanks, ruttl looks very interesting if not a bit complex from a coding perspective. Even though you don't need to know how to code, there's still a bunch you have to learn about layouts to use it properly.

If you can import someone's website based on their URL alone and then provide all the editing in a web flow like interface I think that could be massive in the future, look forward to hearing more about your progress!

Amazing idea Yehunda. Looking forward to see how it pans out. All the best bro

    1. 1

      Whoa, thanks so much, haha!

I've only shown it to close friends and family so far so that's super cool to hear from someone objective. Any ideas what niche I should target to start with the tool or any features that you personally think would be cool to see?

      1. 1

It's a good product honestly. Looks like a complete package to me already but if any thing different comes to mind, I'd let you know. Cheers!
