I need some feedback from the UI/UX point of view.

It is a financial modeling tool. I would appreciate any help.

Hi @dave1808 , did you delete the original post? I was trying to post a follow-up but couldn't (since I took the time to try out your app and write it all down, it was a bit frustrating).

Hey look, if this bothers you, you can copy/paste it somewhere and delete my comment.

Here are a few more points I noticed from browsing the models :

    • I can't edit Name and Starting Date, but there is no indication that these fields are locked. (an asterisk usually means it's a mandatory field.) The normal pattern to indicate a non-editable text field is to make it disabled (grayed out)
    • The monetary unit field uses Countries as its main key, this is incorrect. Many countries might share the same currency, and some companies might model their finances in a currency separate from the country of origin.
    • For some reason you have almost all the largest currencies in the world, but not the Euro? That is strange, but maybe there is a reason.
    • Starting cash balance is in USD, but then I can change the currency and the starting cash balance is still in USD. This is incongruent
    • Currency formats are very restrictive here, you should research more about those. For instance I've never seen X.XXX,YY used like you offer. Europeans use X XXX,YY (unbreakable space to separate thousands, but no points anywhere)
    • the Revenue screen says "Revenue Charg u es" (the U in Chargues is a typo I think)
    • The numbers on the Revenue screen have no units, so it is extremely unclear what is a monetary amount, what is an absolute number, and what is a percentage. For instance I tried to understand the numbers for the "Revenue by recurring charges" item, and I was super confused that "Recurring Charges Avg." said 12 with a churn of 12% per month (the average number of recurring charges should be 8.33 charges per customer), until I understood that you meant "Average transaction size" and BRL R$12 (because I set BRL as the monetary unit in the Settings screen)
    • It seems that every screen that allows me to set monetary amounts disregards my currency choice and asks for "$"
    • I can edit the average charge on a recurring product, and it changes every monthly charge. This is highly unusual and unexpected behavior
    • Your modeling of recurring revenue makes no sense to me. I set it up so that it takes 180 days for the money to be available (which would enable me to see if your revenue model is based on cash revenue or accrued revenue. I set it up with 0 customers from months 1-8, and then 10 customers per month starting on month 9. And I set churn at 0 for the whole year. Therefore cash revenue should be 0 for year 1, and accrued revenue should be 104R$12 + 203R$12 + 302R$12 + 40*R$12 = R$2400. Your model, instead, adds up to 1200. And says there are 30 customers in Year 1 (should be 40). I tried again and it looks like month 12 signups are not considered customers, for some reason (?)
    • The suitcase logo at the top right is unclear. I clicked it and it made me exit the model (not what I wanted). It's bad UX practice to have icons with no labels.
    • If I borrow 2000 in May 2021, repayable over 24 months at 10%, why do I amortize 1296 that year, 272 in 2022, and nothing in 2023? I'm not very well versed in accounting but that looks very strange to me, as the loan would end in 2023? and the total doesn't add up to 2000 or 2000 plus interest? I'm assuming the amounts in those columns are amortizations, but really I don't know, because they are not labeled.
    • Showing revenue, gross profit and net income on the same graph makes temporary negative net income almost invisible (because the scales are so different), which makes the graph less useful. If I could see that my company was going to be -50k in the red for a couple of months, I might be a bit more worried (maybe I should). But since revenue could be in the scale of hundreds of thousands in a given month, a 5-figure negative profit some other time might go unnoticed on the graph.
    • There is a tab called "financial analysis" but it provides no insights. It is about the same as the blood test results : yes, my XYZ is at 400 and the benchmark is 233. So... is that OK? should I be worried? Am I going to die? That would be a necessary bit of context to provide, I think.

I realize that I might not be your target customer (you did not specify who the target was). I think I'm a bit more financially savvy than most startups, and I did not understand everything, so either:

    1. you are targeting folks like me with 7-figure companies (let's say 6 to 8 figures) and some understanding, and you need some clarifications to make things really super clear to us,
    2. you are targeting more advanced folks and they'll understand everything, so that might be fine, if your app is a quick tool to get a financial model done faster than, say, Excel
    3. you are targeting folks who are less savvy and in this case, there is a lot of work on your plate to get the app to the point where a non-financially-savvy entrepreneur can figure it out on their own, I think.

The reason I find your project interesting is that I am currently looking for a financial forecast/modeling tool, actually. (One of my advisors insisted I have to do this). And your tool looks just about simple enough.
I started doing it in Google Spreadsheets, and it's pretty bad.

So maybe I am your target audience? If so, I'd love to give it a try with a non-public account and provide you with more feedback.

    Sébastien

I decided to delete the original post because I notice that the comments had strayed too much from the main topic. Nevertheless, fate has brought you here again and I appreciate a lot your valuable help.

About your previous comment, I eliminate (temporarily) the empty screen for users that decide to login with demo/demo123 instead of following the sign-up process.

If you follow the sign-up process you can enter the starting date of the company in the "empty screen". I changed the color of the starting date field on the settings page to indicate that it isn't editable.
The name of the company is editable at any time.

Changed. Now, the monetary unit field uses currency as its main key.

      Euro was added.

1.000,000 and 1,000.000 are the most used currency formats in financial systems. Even in countries where the official format is 1 000,00 these formats are used.

"Revenue Charg u es" was corrected

The tables of the system are monetary; the currency is shown in the top left corner of each table.
The exceptions to this rule are now stated in the corresponding registries with labels like (h), (employees), (Number of registered customers), (Customers after churn), etc.

For me, the sign "$" represents money. For example, many countries whose currency is "Pesos" have the same symbol. I will think about changing it anyway.

That's exactly the desired behavior. If you fill the annual charge the monthly values will be the annual value divided by 12, otherwise, you can fill each month and the annual value will be calculated using average.

Recurring charges have a complex algorithm. Too large to explain in a post. It has been tested several times.

Changed. Now, each icon has a label.

If you use any web financial calculator, you will get exactly the same results.

Depending on the data some lines could overlap, in that case, there is a popup table that shows each value in the corresponding date.

The target customers are startup founders (not 7 figures companies)
If you evaluate this tool against others in the market, this is the easiest...
