A couple of months ago I got a DM from a friend telling me that a prominent VC with 188k followers tweeted that he needed a service to email him all the tweets from a specific set of users. That's exactly what my product Cortado did (among other things).
I responded to his tweet right away, but I was 3 hours too late. He had already received dozens of replies and concluded that he was going to use another tool.
I want a tool to ensure that this doesn't happen again. Coming from a machine learning background, I found myself wishing there was a tool where I could train an algorithm to figure out what tweets I'm interested in engaging with and then alerting me to them in real time.
Does a tool like this exist?
I tracked down the Tweet that you were referring to.
A simple initial solution would be to pick a handful of search phrases (think SEO), and scrape different sites for that content every X minutes.
For example:
"emailed to you"
"emailed to me"
"email notification"
"notify me"
Plus, check keywords/phrases that visit your site, or other competitor sites like Feedbin, Mailbrew, blogtrottr, Phantombuster, and texau.
I did something like this early on using Google Alerts, but it didn't do a good job of finding the keyword/phrase on platforms like Twitter.
At the time (at least 10 years ago), I found some tools that would monitor Twitter for keywords/phrases, which worked ok, but most of them eventually stopped working / weren't maintained.
I just Googled "Twitter Monitoring" and found this article:

Mention is also a tool to consider. You could also possibly do something like that with IFTTT.
Maybe you can learn something from using an existing tool, then you could possibly build a tool that would allow you to train it.
TweetDeck enables you to monitor keywords in this way. Not sure if it sends instant alerts when a tracked keyword is mentioned so you might need to monitor it closely.
Another option to take a look at is Syften: https://syften.com/
It was made by a fellow Indie Hacker.
Thanks! I'd been using TweetDeck but found it to be a bit clunky for this use case. Syften looks very close to what I was looking for! Their landing page copy articulates well what I'd found missing in some of the bigger tools: "Those products are designed for large companies looking for sentiment analysis, crisis management and community influencers. Because they optimize their functionality for brand watching they are not well suited for niche monitoring."
Thanks for making this product @akfaew! I signed up for your email course, and I'll sign up for the trial of Syften once I get some more time to focus on growth.
Oh cool, I'm glad to hear that. Once you're in I'm happy to help you get started.
Good stuff!
Thanks! These are some really helpful ideas.
