"I" or "we"?

Personally, I don't think there's a right or wrong answer here. It depends on the context.

When I'm talking about the product or company, using "we" feels natural because users are interacting with the product, not just the founder. For example, "We're launching a beta" or "Follow us for updates" doesn't necessarily imply a large team.

On the other hand, when sharing the founder story, lessons learned, or building-in-public updates, I think "I" creates more authenticity. People generally appreciate knowing there's a real person behind the product.

I've noticed many successful solo founders use both. They say "I" when discussing their journey and "we" when discussing the company or product experience.

At the end of the day, consistency and honesty matter more than the specific pronoun. Most users care about whether you're solving their problem, not how many people are behind the scenes.

I tend to use "we" for public facing things like the website but I find that "I" works better when answering customer support requests or reaching out to people via e-mail. Adds a nice personal touch!

Or just use the company name in your copy to avoid I/we usage.

I've got the same question and hope for some great answers. In my solo project I use both forms without following any special rules. I'm aware this is not perfect, but sometimes "we" seems to fit better. I'm telling myself that "we" just means "my project and I".

I would use the product name for things like following on Twitter. "Follow X".

For everything else, I would use "I/me" if it really is just you. Transparency is better than image. You may also find that you attract people who actually want to support a solopreneur.

Be fully transparent. People want companies who they trust aren't playing games with them.

I think Follow project_name is preferably. In my opinion, it's a bit more professional and it isnt a lie.

In other places I is perfectly fine ( unless you are targeting enterprises ) and a bit more personal.

We, it is always we. You will need the help of others, no one person can do it all! If it makes you feel better, think of your web servers as humanoid robots delivering pages on your behalf ;)

Pretty similar to what @freezegun said. On the website and marketing I usually put think we have done, we are doing, we want to hear from from you. If I'm emailing someone regarding support or writing a post mortem on an incident for example then tend to put I investigated xyz etc.

Good question that most of us here think about. I would say it depends on the project. For example Levels Nomad List is more authentic if sold as work of one nomad that needed to categorize the places to visit. But on a more business facing site I would go for "we" as perhaps it won't be you forever and also you refer to the "company".

I use "we" on marketing material but I did notice how suddenly artificial it sounds when you're giving a talk about it and keep saying "we". I just say "I" when verbally talking about it.

I think when you are representing the product, "we" gives the impression that there are more than one person working on it, which most people assume that there's a team behind a product.

When you are building your personal brand (on your own twitter for example) then "I" makes sense.
