I pivoted my AI-first omnichannel inbox to build "Escalation-as-a-Service" for AI agents

Hello Indie Hackers,

If you’re building AI agents, you already know the hardest part isn't the local demo—it’s deploying them to production. When your LLM hits an edge case, hallucinates, or needs to perform a high-stakes action, you need a reliable safety net.

That’s why I built await human()(awaithuman.dev). It’s an Escalation-as-a-Service platform that gives your agents drop-in human-in-the-loop (HITL) infrastructure.

The Backstory

Originally, I was building a general AI-first omnichannel customer communication inbox with the ability to handoff to huamn agents. While working on it, I realized AI agent developers were facing a much bigger pain point: managing AI-to-human handoffs whether it's a chatbot or an agentic workflow. Every dev shouldn't have to build custom internal tools, approval queues, and state management logic just to keep their autonomous agents from going off the rails. So, I pivoted the core product to focus entirely on agentic escalations.

How it works:

  1. The Trigger: You give your agent (OpenAI, Claude, etc.) an await_humantool.

  2. The Pause: When the agent hits a low confidence score or restricted action, it pings the API, securely pausing the workflow.

  3. The Alert: It instantly alerts your operations team wherever they work (WhatsApp, Telegram, Push, Email, SMS).

  4. The Intervention: A human reviews the complete LLM reasoning trace and contextual history on our dashboard (you can also embed this as a white-label UI in your own app).

  5. The Resolution: The operator approves, modifies, or rejects the action, and the agentic workflow seamlessly resumes.

Under the Hood

For the technical folks, I wanted this to be accessible anywhere. I built the entire frontend across web, mobile, and desktop using a unified Flutter codebase. The backend handles the complex workflow state routing using Bun, TypeScript, and ElysiaJS to keep the infrastructure incredibly fast and lightweight.

We are currently in a free Beta phase, and I would love to get feedback from anyone building agentic workflows or adding AI capabilities to their apps.

  • How are you currently handling AI edge cases?

  • Are you building custom dashboards for human review?

Would love to hear your thoughts or answer any questions about the pivot or the stack!

    hello founder of await human

I just read your post about pivoting await human(). This really stood out: "I was building a general AI-first omnichannel inbox… but realized developers were facing a much bigger pain point."

That's exactly the kind of pivot every solo builder deals with. You had a plan, realized something wasn't working, and had to completely reshuffle everything. Managing what to work on next, keeping momentum through that shift, staying organized when your whole direction changes — that's the hard part.

I'm not selling anything — just talking to solo builders about how you actually manage planning and daily execution when you're pivoting fast and wearing all the hats.

Would you be open to a quick 20-minute call about how you handled that pivot with await human()? I think your perspective would be really valuable.
