I quit enterprise consulting to build a SaaS for freelancers, here's what I learned

After 5 years managing digital transformation projects for large corporations in multicultural, complex environments, I made a decision: I was going to build the tool I always wished existed for independent workers.

That became ITatScale, an AI-powered, all-in-one SaaS platform for freelancers and small businesses.

The problem I kept seeing

In enterprise environments, entire IT teams automate workflows that a solo freelancer is still doing manually in 2025:

  • Copy-pasting email requests into a spreadsheet

  • Writing quotes from scratch every single time

  • Chasing unpaid invoices by hand

  • Searching through hundreds of emails to find a client detail

Meanwhile, the tools available for independent workers are either too expensive (Salesforce, HubSpot), too complex, or simply not designed for how they actually work.

In France specifically, there's an added urgency: electronic invoicing becomes mandatory in September 2026 for all businesses, including freelancers and micro-entrepreneurs. Most of them have no idea it's coming.

What I built

ITatScale centralizes and automates the operational side of running a freelance business:

Email Connector Connect your Outlook inbox. ITatScale detects incoming leads, creates CRM entries automatically, and can trigger quote generation without you lifting a finger.

Smart CRM All your clients, prospects, and pipeline in one place, updated automatically from your emails.

AI Quote Generation A client sends a request by email → ITatScale generates a pre-filled PDF quote → you validate in one click → it's sent. What used to take 30 minutes now takes 30 seconds.

Electronic Invoicing Compliant with France's mandatory 2026 reform. Built-in from day one.

AI Knowledge Base Drop notes in any format. The AI classifies them, builds a category tree, and makes them searchable in natural language.

Dashboard & KPIs Real-time business metrics. No setup. Everything is connected automatically.

The tech stack

  • Next.js 15 frontend

  • NestJS + GraphQL backend API

  • Prisma + SQLite database

  • GPT-4o-mini AI engine for extraction, classification, generation

  • Microsoft Graph API Outlook email connector

  • Hosted in France GDPR compliant by design

Where I am today

Honest numbers:

  • MRR: €0 currently free during launch phase

  • Users: early stage building the user base before monetizing

  • DR: 0 just launched, working on backlinks

  • Pages indexed: 3/17 SEO in progress

The platform is fully functional. The email connector works, the CRM works, the AI quote generation works. I'm now focused on getting the first real users and collecting feedback.

What I've learned so far

1. Building is the easy part. Getting people to try something new is much harder, especially when they're used to "good enough" solutions like Excel and Word.

2. The 2026 reform is a real forcing function. French freelancers who don't care about CRM still care about not getting fined for non-compliant invoicing. It's my best go-to-market angle.

3. Modularity matters. The #1 objection from early conversations is "I don't need all of this." The ability to activate only what you need, and pay only for what you use, removes that friction immediately.

4. Speed of response wins leads. The AI quote generation feature, where an incoming email triggers an automatic quote, isn't just a productivity feature. It's a competitive advantage for the freelancer. The one who responds first usually gets the client.

What's next

  • Getting the first 50 real users

  • Launching on Product Hunt this week

  • Building backlinks to get indexed on target keywords

  • Recording a demo video for the homepage

  • Writing SEO content around the 2026 invoicing reform

I'd love your feedback

If you're a freelancer or run a small business, what's the most painful part of your current workflow? What would make a tool like ITatScale indispensable for you?

And if you're building something in the SMB / freelance space, I'd love to connect and exchange notes.
