I realized why most “lead gen” feels fake

I used to think lead gen was about volume.

More lists.

More scraping.

More messages.

But after watching how people actually buy, I realized something uncomfortable:

Most customers don’t respond to outreach.

They respond to timing.

People don’t wake up wanting a product.

They talk about a problem first.

On Reddit.

On X.

On LinkedIn comments.

In random threads you’d never think to check.

That’s the moment they’re warm.

The problem is those conversations are:

  • scattered across platforms

  • short-lived

  • gone by the time you manually find them

So founders either:

  • spam cold lists

  • rely on content hoping someone converts

  • or spend hours doom-scrolling for “leads”

None of that scales.

I’m building LeadSynth to flip this around:

  • detect real conversations where people are actively asking for a solution

  • surface them while they’re still fresh

  • help you respond without sounding like a bot

It’s not magic growth.

It’s just showing up at the right moment.

Curious how other indie founders here handle discovery:

Do you actively look for buying conversations, or mostly wait for inbound?

Happy to share what’s worked (and what hasn’t).

This timing insight is gold. Most founders focus on "more traffic" when they should focus on "being there when it matters." The 90-minute window stat is particularly valuable - really puts the urgency of real-time monitoring in perspective.

      Glad that resonated.

That 90-minute window changed how I think about growth completely. Once you realize decisions often happen inside the conversation, traffic matters far less than timing.

Most founders don’t lose on product or marketing, they lose because they arrive after the decision is already made.

If you’re curious, this is exactly what I built LeadSynth for, it surfaces real buying conversations while they’re still fresh so you can show up at the right moment, not after.

You can see how it works here: https://www.leadsynthai.app/

Would love to hear how you’re currently spotting those moments.
