Copied @momoko today and added a few lines to my /etc/hosts file
127.0.0.1 twitter.com
127.0.0.1 www.twitter.com
Meaning: I can't access Twitter right now. I felt like my relationship with it got a little unhealthy, I started typing "twi" in the navbar out of reflex, not because I wanted to do something, and it started to drain a lot more energy than it used to.
I have a small caveat that Monica doesn't exploit I think: I'll keep my Tweetdeck accessible and will use it to tweet, share content and manage my brand accounts. Let's see how it goes.
I recently switched to a Twitter client that’s list focused (it’s called feather, if interested). It really changed Twitter for me!
Now I have multiple timelines for various categories, “outraged”, “makers”, “longtimers”, “bali” etc and it’s a really pleasant experience now. I dip in and then I’m out. No more rabbit hole, unless I’m in the mood to waste time or be outraged by the “news”.
It’s been very good for me, no idea if it will be good for others :)
My issue was I accidentally found out that mobile.twitter.com works the same way.
So then, I started "cheating" and typing in "mob" instead of "twi" to access twitter.
Had to block that too. You can do the same for Tweetdeck and then use a totally external tool like Buffer to distribute :P
Haha I do that too.
Luckily, my cofounder convinced me to use Twist instead of Slack for our internal communications...
So whenever I want to post rubbish on Twitter, I end up annoying him in Twist instead :D
