I shipped a "forgiving" retention streak: here's the mechanic and why

Milestone: shipped a weekly posting streak on my scheduling tool's dashboard, aimed at retention.

Context: XreplyAI is a multi-platform scheduler (14 platforms, one calendar). My biggest leak isn't acquisition, it's the second and third week. People connect their accounts, schedule a week of posts, then vanish during a busy stretch and never come back. The streak is my first deliberate attempt to give them a reason to return.

Streaks are the obvious lever, but daily streaks are cruel for founders. Miss one day and you quit. So I made three deliberate calls:

  1. The unit is the week, not the day. Publish once a week and the streak holds.
  2. One missed week per month is auto-bridged by a free freeze. Life happens.
  3. Two empty weeks in a row resets, so it still means something.

Milestones at 4/12/26/52 weeks, plus a dismissible at-risk nudge late in the week. The bet: forgiveness increases the odds someone comes back, and coming back is the whole retention game.

Would love feedback from anyone who's run gamification for retention. Is a monthly freeze too generous to change behavior?
