I started a 90-day LinkedIn Growth Challenge. Here’s what I learned In 90 Days! Part-2

After not getting much leads and subscribers for my newsletter from Instagram. I challenged myself to grow a LinkedIn following in 90 days and here’s what I learned in 90 days!

This is the 2nd part of the challenge, you can check the first post here with all the lessons I learned in first 30 days. Moving to this post, here’s what I learned!

LinkedIn is Going to Prioritise Video Content

One of my Instagram followers creates content on LinkedIn from years. He was chosen for “LinkedIn Creator Accelerator” program and one of the key lessons LinkedIn taught them was video marketing. Like other platforms, LinkedIn will prioritise video content from now and that’s an effective option to grow your LinkedIn following or presence.

Creators are Using LinkedIn Newsletters as Growth Strategy

How? Nearly every creator in my niche(marketing) with small following like 500-1000 was starting newsletter. The key reason was Getting engagement on LinkedIn is not as simple as IG or Tiktok.

They were using newsletters to inform about their new pieces of content they published earlier to get engagement from the connections more easily.

LinkedIn Automations work but don’t make it too obvious you are using them.

You can’t spend hours on LinkedIn putting that much work into growth because other marketing channels can give you more ROI with that time. That’s why automations are the way to go.

Accept the fact that most people know you sent an automated message from the tone of your message. That’s why make sure your automated message sounds worth reading.

Or Do the opposite, what worked for me was clearly starting with “This is an automated message. I’m busy but you are one of the best in X community. That’s why I am….”.

My favourite LinkedIn Automation tools are
Salesflow and LinkedIn’s own sales automation tool.

Focus on Content Repurposing & Structuring to Go Viral on LinkedIn

I have faced failures on LinkedIn many times and that was due to running out of ideas. While on this challenge I had to post consistently.

I picked up 3 Creators to see how they are so consistent.

Justin Welsh: 230k LinkedIn Followers

He posts 2-3 times a day. I was like how the hell is he coming up with so many ideas every day. I analysed his last 30-40 posts and here’s what I found!

  1. Using numbers to differentiate the repurposed content. Numbers can complete make a difference and make your content look new and more appealing. Justin uses numbers to represent the results and insights that works.

Using a statistic to open a LinkedIn post can attract a bunch of people from LinkedIn that are growth oriented.

  1. Just flip the format. Turn the viral LinkedIn Article into Tl:dr list, make quotes out of it. You will have 5-10 piece of new content from 1 long format Piece of content. That’s what Justin does every day.

Ali Merchant 13k LinkedIn Followers

All I can say is this guy spends a lot of time on Motivational pages on IG and Tiktok. He posts content around Leadership very consistently and here’s what he does!

You see dumb things going viral on LinkedIn. That shows algorithm ranks beginner Facebook-like content sometimes. That’s where Ali comes in, he uses motivational headlines to start posts and then add his thoughts about Leadership.

Using a Triggering Part like Motivational Quote + Conversion part like His Tips. He is never running out of ideas and growing on LinkedIn.

9 Out of Every LinkedIn Creator

The other creators that never ran out of ideas and was growing did these things:

  1. Share a random story that doesn’t link to brand but will get engagement.
  2. Share industry quotes from Steve jobs or others.
  3. Sharing Content like r/LinkedInlunatics

I wrote these type of creators down to remind me never create content like this!

Carousels take time to take off on LinkedIn

Carousels are great format to create professional appeal and in attracting clients for your business. But Carousels take time to go viral and engagement on your carousels will reach slowly.

In Carousels, At the beginning focus on captions too. Mentioning someone in caption and leading a conversation through caption can bring in more engagement than your newly started carousel series will get normally.

LinkedIn Meme’s are a great for Brand Awareness

Shitposts going viral on LinkedIn tells us that user base of LinkedIn likes that. So, why don’t you use that to derive some brand awareness with using the algorithm gap.

Don’t post beginner and motivational content for algorithm because memes will connect with your existing valuable audience plus Will help you reach a massive audience with high-appealing content structure.

LinkedIn is still Best For B2B marketing

B2B brands do really well on platform that’s what I observed and also LinkedIn provides great inbuilt-tools effective for B2B businesses.

Twitter content does well on LinkedIn

Your best tweets are very likely to go viral on LinkedIn that’s why try to repurpose Them.

If you write threads on twitter, then I would recommend you to post the same thread with white space on LinkedIn as text post.

White space plays a vital role on LinkedIn as I mentioned In my last post.

Some Insights on State of LinkedIn

I cover LinkedIn and other social media updates every week in my newsletter (link in bio). Here’s what I found out through that coverage!

  1. LinkedIn hired creators like Nas Daily, Tejas Hullur, Ankur Warikoo and many others for creator accelerator completely showing their interest in training creators about Video Content.
  2. LinkedIn launched 5-6 updates in last 90 days related to audio content and they want you to focus on that part too.
  3. LinkedIn said in May that they are changing algorithm to make sure motivational and click bait content doesn’t work. Well, it’s still on my feed.
  4. Linked announced Business manager and that all shows you shouldn’t sleep on LinkedIn. It’s evolving!

##Quick Tips from My last Post About this challenge!

  1. Optimise your post preview. Make sure your post previews content that makes people click on read more!
  2. Building Connections through DMs and Mentions from the first day is important.
  3. Use white space and short sentences to build the link to make people keep reading.

  1. 1

The week 6-7 tipping point matches my own experience exactly. MagicPost free-tools is what helped me survive the first six weeks when motivation was low and nothing seemed to be working yet. Removing drafting friction made showing up daily possible.
