Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on a small project called HackMyPlant.
It started from getting into plant tissue culture while collecting rare aroids (Monstera, Anthurium, Philodendron, Alocasia etc). The technique itself is really interesting, but I found it surprisingly difficult to get into as a hobbyist.
Most of the information out there is written for labs or commercial growers, and a lot of the supplies are sold in quantities and prices that don’t really make sense if you’re just experimenting at home.
It ended up feeling a bit inaccessible for what is essentially a hobby.
So I started putting together resources aimed at hobbyists — guides, and now starting to look at supplying things in smaller, more reasonable quantities.
Still early, but it’s been interesting building something around a very niche community.
If anyone has experience building in niche hobby spaces I’d be interested to hear how you approached it.
One thing I’ve found interesting so far is how small but engaged the plant community is.
It feels like you don’t need loads of traffic — just to be in the right place at the right time.
