Hey Indie Hackers! đ
We all know the "Solo Founder" paradox. You have a killer idea and the drive to execute, but youâre missing the piece that makes it real: a team.
So, you do what everyone tells you to. You open LinkedIn or Twitter.
You DM developers. (90% get ghosted).
You post "Looking for a technical co-founder." (Crickets đŠ).
You join Slack communities. (Itâs just people shouting about their own products).
Itâs exhausting. I spent months trying to find a partner who actually cared about my vision as much as I did. Most people wanted a salary, not equity. Thatâs when I realized: We aren't looking for employees; we're looking for partners.
Thatâs why I built Startives.
What is Startives? Think of it as the "Operating System" for early-stage startups. Itâs not just a job board; itâs an ecosystem where visionaries meet builders.
Why Startives beats random cold DMs? When you search for a partner on LinkedIn, youâre fighting for attention alongside corporate job postings and recruiters. Itâs a numbers game, and the odds are terrible. Startives is different because everyone here is here to build. We filter out the "9-to-5" mindset. You find people who are looking for equity, challenges, and ownershipânot just a paycheck. It turns the "co-founder search" from a cold sales pitch into a warm introduction.
Here is what makes it different:
Discover Projects: Itâs not a job listing. Itâs a partnership marketplace. You can filter by stage (Idea, MVP, Launched) and skill (Dev, Design, Marketing) to find your perfect match.
Startalks (The Anti-Twitter): A social feed only for founders. Share your wins, your pivots, and your struggles without the noise of politics or memes. Get genuine feedback from people actually building stuff.
The Asset Exchange: This is our game-changer. If a project doesn't work out, you don't have to let the code die. You can list your digital assets (SaaS, codebases) on our marketplace to sell or acquire new projects instantly.
Iâm not trying to replace LinkedIn. Iâm trying to build the place where you go when youâre actually ready to ship.
If youâre tired of building in silence, come join the movement: đ https://startives.com
Letâs discuss: Whatâs been your biggest hurdle in finding a co-founder? Is it the skills, or the trust? Let me know in the comments. đ§”
The trust point is spot on. I went solo for the same reason â spent too long looking for someone who cared about the problem as much as I did. Eventually just started building myself and shipped faster than any of those co-founder conversations would have led to. Sometimes the best co-founder search is just starting and letting the right people find you through the work.
Totally agree with you. Shipping fast actually teaches more than endless co-founder talks. That said, having the right partner can 10x things, thatâs exactly what weâre trying to enable with Startives.
What's the business model?
Great question. Right now itâs free to use, focus is on building strong network effects first. Later weâll introduce premium features, visibility boosts, and curated deals for founders.
Haha, so basically⊠Startives is like Tinder, but for co-founders! Swiping for equity instead of dates. đ
Haha thatâs actually a fun way to put it đ but yeah, instead of random matching, weâre trying to make it more meaningful with shared goals, skills, and real startup intent.
yeah makes sense - otherwise it just turns into random swiping with no real outcome đ
focusing on intent and goals is what actually makes it useful
Great try, good for that
Appreciate it, means a lot đ still early but building fast and improving every day.
âWhatâs something founders unknowingly do that damages their credibility with investors or partners?â

From what Iâve seen, overpromising and under-delivering hurts the most. Being transparent, showing progress, and staying consistent builds real trust over time.

This is actually valuable for early-stage AI teams. Appreciate you sharing, credits like these can really help founders build faster without heavy infra costs.

Love it, I actually just built 7secondfuture where founders can pitch their ideas and be found by investors/advisors/business partners. Maybe you pitch your idea there too
Thatâs interesting, love the idea of giving founders more visibility. Will definitely check it out, platforms like these can really help early-stage builders get noticed.
The trust problem is the real one â skills you can evaluate in a week but whether someone will still care about the project six months in when it's hard is almost impossible to know upfront. I've been going the solo route for exactly this reason. The asset exchange idea is interesting though, did you get that from seeing a specific pain point or was it something you experienced yourself?
You explained it really well, trust is definitely the hardest part. And yes, the idea came from both observing this gap and experiencing it personally while trying to find the right people.
The co-founder search problem feels very real.
From an engineer perspective, Iâve noticed the hardest part isnât finding people with skills â itâs finding alignment on pace and ownership. A lot of early conversations break not on âcan they buildâ, but on âhow much do they actually want to build thisâ.
The âpartnership vs employee mindsetâ point really resonates.
This is spot on. Alignment on pace and ownership matters way more than just skills. That âpartnership vs employee mindsetâ difference is exactly what breaks most early conversations.
Good decision
Appreciate it đ still early but building consistently and learning along the way.
How are you thinking about distribution? The product looks solid but curious what's working for getting it in front of people early on.
Great question. Right now Iâm focusing on organic distribution, building in public, sharing consistently on X and LinkedIn, and engaging in founder communities. Early traction is coming from conversations, feedback loops, and word of mouth. Still experimenting and doubling down on what works.
