Most builders are busy shipping AI features.
Almost no one is thinking about the boring side of it , compliance, governance, regulation.
I get it. It’s not sexy.
But then something hit me:
The EU AI Act is about to do to AI what GDPR did to data. And most companies are sleepwalking into it.
I started poking around:
• Talking to founders and PMs building AI products
• Chatting with AI lawyers
• Reading job posts that quietly mention “AI governance”
• Watching how different countries in the EU are reacting
And I kept seeing the same pattern:
Everyone knows the storm is coming.
No one knows when or what to do about it.
So I built something small to make sense of the chaos:
AI Act Tracker, a simple way to see who’s preparing for the AI Act, how they’re doing it, and what 'readiness' actually looks like across Europe.
Not a course.
Not a 200-page PDF.
A signal-based tracker that shows real movements: hires, policies, risk triggers, etc.
I’m still early, but the DMs I’m getting from AI founders, VCs, and compliance folks made me realize there’s something here. This might become a whole new category: 'AI Governance Intelligence.'
Why am I sharing this?
Because Indie Hackers is where weird niche ideas become real businesses.
If you’re building AI products, or your customers are, I’m curious:
A few ideas I’m testing:
💡 Is your product high/medium/low risk under the AI Act?
🔍 Early-warning dashboard of regulatory signals in your industry
📊 Benchmark: 'How far behind/ahead are we compared to others?'
🧱 A GPT-style 'AI Act Co-Pilot' that gives actionable next steps
If you were me, what would you build first?
Happy to share early access with a few IH folks who want to kick the tires and shape the product.
Would love feedback, even if it’s “nobody cares about this” (I can take it).
You're definitely on to something here. The dashboard and benchmark would be the most useful and unique offerings in my opinion. I'd love to get early access and would be happy to provide feedback
