I Think I Made This Term Up... πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ Comparative Perspective πŸ€”

Some mornings the gym can be a de-motivator.

POV: You're making steady progress and think you look pretty good in the mirror but once you get to the gym it is all too clear that you're no where near GigaChad status as you notice the physique of some of the regulars. This happens often and I recently made up a term for it called comparative perspective during a store run after the gym.

If you leave the gym and make a store run, you'll likely be amongst a good amount of people who are not in the gym at all, at this moment you realize you may not be a GigaChad yet but there are probably people in this very store that believe you are from their perspective. Life is full of moving targets, at every point you could be somebodies goal yet feel like you are nowhere near your goal.

Comparative Perspective is all just a big metaphor made up in my head to help me focus on what's most important as I build my product. Although I am somewhat a beginner Dev I never allow it to stop me or make me feel like I am in above my head. While I can look at Pieter Levels or Fireship and say "look at that GigaChad, I wish I was that good", others may look at my skills and just wish their starting point was the same as mine. Yes I have not always had the focus of software development but having 6+ years of IT experience as a Server Engineer and an Application Security Engineer is definitely a starting point that plenty would yearn for.

Comparative Perspective is real, at least until I google it and find out it either doesn't exist or means something completely different than I think. Until then... πŸ€·πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ
