I think stale follow-ups are a better AI admin problem than "autonomy"

One small-business workflow I keep coming back to is the stale follow-up.

Not because it is exciting.

Because it is where real money quietly leaks.

A lead asks for a quote.

The owner replies once.

Then the thread gets buried under invoices, supplier emails, calendar changes, and random admin work.

Nobody intentionally drops the lead.

The next step just becomes unclear:

  • who owns it?
  • what context is missing?
  • when should we follow up?
  • is this still worth pursuing?
  • what should be drafted before the owner approves it?

That feels like a better first AI admin workflow than broad autonomy.

I do not think most small businesses want an AI to make commitments for them out of the box.

They want the mess turned into visible next actions.

Show stale threads.

Show missing context.

Draft the reply.

Suggest the follow-up date.

Then stop before anything customer-facing goes out.

That seems less flashy than "AI employee runs your business," but much more useful.

For founders building workflow tools:

Do you think stale follow-ups are a strong wedge?

Or is the bigger pain somewhere else in the admin pile?
