A few months ago, I started working on a project that seemed almost too simple.
A unit conversion website.
At first, I wasn't sure if anyone would actually use it. After all, there are already hundreds of conversion websites online.
But I kept noticing something interesting.
People search for conversions every single day:
Inch to cm
Kg to lbs
Celsius to Fahrenheit
Hectare to acre
Square feet to square meters
Most of these searches are extremely specific and have clear intent.
Someone searching for "1 hectare to 1 acre" isn't browsing. They need an answer right now.
That realization led me to build UnitMorph.
The Idea
Instead of creating another general information website, I decided to focus on solving one problem well:
Making conversions fast, accurate, and easy to understand.
The goal wasn't just to show a number.
I wanted every conversion page to include:
Instant calculations
Helpful explanations
Real-world examples
Conversion formulas
Frequently asked questions
This approach helps users understand the conversion rather than simply copy a result.
What Surprised Me
The biggest surprise was how many long-tail keywords exist in the conversion space.
For example:
How to convert 1 hectare to 1 acre
50 cm to inches
5 kg to pounds
Inches to centimeters formula
Individually, these keywords may not seem huge.
But together, they create thousands of opportunities to attract targeted search traffic.
My Current Approach
Right now I'm focusing on three things:
Each tool targets a specific user need.
The goal is to make conversions as fast as possible while keeping the interface simple.
Instead of publishing thin pages, I'm creating guides around common conversions.
For example, I recently published a detailed guide explaining:
How to Convert 1 Hectare to 1 Acre
It includes formulas, examples, FAQs, and practical use cases.
I'm experimenting with:
Medium
DEV Community
Indie Hackers
Social media
Directory submissions
The goal is to get feedback while building authority around the project.
Lessons Learned So Far
A few things I've learned:
Simple ideas can still work.
Search intent matters more than search volume.
Small utility websites can attract surprisingly targeted traffic.
Consistency beats complexity.
I spent far too much time in the beginning looking for the "perfect" idea.
In reality, execution matters much more.
What I'm Building
The project is called UnitMorph:
One of the recent guides I published is:
https://unitmorph.com/how-to-convert-1-hectare-to-1-acre/
I'm continuing to add more conversion tools and educational content while learning SEO along the way.
Looking for Feedback
If you've built utility websites, SEO projects, calculators, or other search-driven businesses, I'd love to hear:
What worked for you?
How did you acquire your first users?
What distribution channels performed best?
Still early, but it's been a fun project so far, and I'm excited to see where it goes.
