I want to do a podcast MVP via Whatsapp, any suggestions?

Hi everybody,

This week I want to do what I call a podcast MVP, the goal is to test if a podcast can help me acquire customers for my app.

My idea is to do a quick first episode where I interview someone who work in the gig economy and ask about his story, why he works in the gig economy, the weirdest thing that ever happened, the most annoying one, the funniest thing, etc.

This first episode will be distributed solely via Whatsapp. I will first send a short 1 min audio of the podcast to relevant contacts and with a link to join a WhatsApp group to get the full audio file of the episode.

What do you think?, do you have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Well, why not try it. I'd go even further as to incentivize people already there to invite more people into the group (you can offer some bonus for that).

Usually I'd prefer to create groups on platforms where the platform showcases you the more you grow. For example, the more engaging your FB group is, the more FB is showing it to new users on FB who aren't part of it. Not sure if this is the case with WhatsApp.

I have a referral program but I haven’t started to incentivize it, probably I can kickstart it this way.

I could also create a FB group similar to the WhatsApp one, good tip there :) thanks!

Why have you selected a podcast as a marketing channel for your app?

I just want to try that channel, the target group of people I’m interested is communicating via a WhatsApp group and I though that if I get them to join my podcast whatsapp group it would be easier for them to share the audio file of the podcast.

I think you need a stronger reason for choosing your delivery channel.

Just my opinion so feel free to highlight where i'm wrong. I think creating podcasts is time consuming and getting people to listen to podcasts could be difficult.

If you had said that "my desired audience LOVES podcasts and is always listening to podcasts" then I think that would be a strong reason. But it sounds like your main reason is "it would be easier for them to share the audio file of the podcast." I would argue that it would be even easier for your audience to share websites or even images with your content via whatsapp instead of podcasts.

Good point, well I want to first create a very simple audio to test if people like to listen to other people having their same problems and situations, if the channel doesn’t work I will change it, that’s why I want to do it very very simple and MVP-ish.

gotcha yeah, could be an interesting experiment! Good luck!
