I want to get off gmail

I want to get off gmail and either use another email service provider or install email on my own servers. It's ridiculous that google wields so much power now over the internet. Their profiling and relentless security questions are an invasion of everyone's privacy. Can anyone recommend an alternative email service provider or good software to run on a linux distro? Thanks.

Proton mail is a great service too. They are all about encryption, and the base set of features are very useful

Wow, that's really insightful. Thanks for taking the time to write that out!
It seems though that there needs to be an entirely new form of email format directed at businesses. You know, it will be 100% encrypted from sneak-mail box to sneak-mail box; and maybe you can do something where it stays encrypted in a non sneak-mail box so it requires a software download to decrypt 🤔🤔🤔

You could get pretty far with an enterprise server though, no? If as long as the actual data is stored on a server of the clients choosing, with the only possible backdoors requiring physical presence, don't you think you could make a case for an easily implemented encrypted email software that requires local download and privileges to view?

Hell, you might even be able to make a series of browser plug-ins that automatically install so your client side/non main user can view your encrypted email locally on their browser.

On second thought, that sounds like way to much infrastructure for a viable MVP 😂

    Hi Geoffrey,
    I'm super happy with https://www.zoho.com.
The price is really cheap and you can add as much as you want of custom domains.

100% agree with you and I've been trying to move to a private email provider. It's difficult because I've used gmail for everything for years.

I chose FastMail and I'm happy paying a subscription, it's a great provider.

FastMail also has a calendar, so this is great if you also want to move away from Google Calendar.

    I really really like Fastmail.

Spinning up aliases is super simple and is fantastic for testing. I love it.

I'm using ProtonMail nowadays. But I'm quite annoyed that they don't have a calendar service.

I've been using https://fastmail.com/ for quite some time now.

On the following website, you have all the alternatives to the tech products that we are, somehow, constrained to use nowadays: https://prism-break.org/en/

Superhuman has the potential to be the best email client ever.

Not sure how far along are they though, access is still limited it seems, but it would be worth it for you to keep an eye on them.

ProtonMail, FastMail, YandexMail are all decent replacements.
