I want to teach you to build and validate your MVPs
Hi Indie Hackers community. I'm Sean and I've worked as developer, marketer, teacher and lecturer for nearly two decades and I want to teach you to build and validate your MVPs.
Why am I doing this? I am passionate about teaching and creating and want to give you the best learning experience possible. I want to save you from unnecessary theory, boring curriculums, bad analogies, abstract examples and immediately give you the rush of building your ideas and getting your first users.
I am looking to take on a handful of students who have availability during BST 09:00-17:00 over the coming weeks. We will agree on a time commitment and schedule and I will teach you, coach you, give you challenges and feedback. All for free.
By the end you will be able to build web applications with Ruby, Sinatra, Sequel (SQLite and Postgres), HTML, CSS, Git and Heroku.
My plan is to offer this service as premium course run over a few weeks with approximately 24 hours of teaching and coaching, tailored challenges with personal feedback and life long access to a community.

A little bit more about me. I have a MSc in Computer Science. I have worked mostly for startups (early stage to high growth) - handful were in edtech. Recently I lead senior teams at GitLab, Rocket.Chat, Codio and founded my own startup.
I've taught Python to children as young as 4, high school computer science, university undergraduate computer science, game design and development, trained teachers and run many game jams, hackathons and workshops.
I feel that the learning experience today is overwhelming for students. Sandboxed, syntax focussed and self directed for the sake of scalability and profitability at the students' expense.
I want to make a difference by giving people the experience I got and that I use in my teaching. When I learnt to code I was thrown straight into a complete and relatable application to build upon, experiment with and share with friends.
I want people to enjoy the process of learning to code and remove the fear and anxiety sometimes associated with STEM subject.

I would be definitely be interested in joining you as a student.
I am an engineer, but not within the software or tech industry. I've recently started to learn to code for a side project, but there is definitely a curve when starting out (i.e. what language to learn, what the correct syntax is, what the hell did I do wrong etc). So you are not wrong about how overwhelming the learning experience is, especially for person without a technical background.
How much of a commitment would you expect from a student?

Sounds interesting. I know html/css but have never learned a coding language to create an app. I have a couple of projects I'd love to be able to build myself. I've always wanted to learn to code properly but have no idea where to start. It would be awesome to learn how everything fits together, from frontend to backend, to create something useful.
