I was looking for testers, but failed to find them. What can I do?

I'm building a financial product, which is meant to help people understand better their personal finances and the areas they should pay attention to.

I've been looking for about ~20 testers to try it out, and didn't have much luck.
Here is what happened:

  1. Reddit--posted in on testing subreddits. No one responded. I think they're dead.
  2. Newsletter ads for techy/curious people: spent $200; only 3 people signed up (way short of my goal)
  3. Polywork: posted and pinged ~50 ppl who are interested in beta testing other entrepreneurs' products. No one responded. Seems to be a complete ghost town.

None of the things are working for me so far. What channels should I try?

There may be an obvious reason why you haven't mentioned this, but friends, friends of friends, colleagues or family members?
I haven't launched my app yet, but when anyone finds out I am building one, they are like "Let me know if you need a tester!" (Even though it was soooo clear that they were not my target market).

Thank you, I forgot to explain! I'm done with friends and family and am now looking for people who have very different financial profiles from my F&F.
      Hope I'll find them:-)
