In the beginning, I was concerned about the problem we were trying to solve. We were super focused on features, usability, design.
Don't get me wrong: we had to start somewhere, right?
We are a fast, focused team. We execute well.
Decision Mate got its first big client. Huge company. Awesome insights, use cases all over the place. They started using Decision Mate and, rapidly, had remarkable results: engagement ratios to the roof (10x), post-processing times down from 4 weeks to immediate (avoiding human errors) leaving to the teams the (most important in my opinion) task: make the decision.
But I was wrong. I was focused on the product, and what I needed the most was distribution.
The One Million Dollar Question is: How can we be in front of as many eyes as we can?
During this pandemic times, I took my time and talked with colleagues about it. Everyone had a different approach. Bottom line: there is not such a thing as a black book of what to f-do.
So what I did was to chat with my prospect persona. Understand their needs, their pain, how, and where they will be using Decision Mate.
I wasn't "selling". I was "listening".
We are now in a (very) good position.
Our "persona" is anyone who needs to test their product before going live. From a landing page flow to a new app. For that media campaign you always test on Facebook, but you don't get enough data. Within your internal team or with an external group of people.
Yes, I was wrong. But I'm not anymore.
Congrats. One piece of advice I have heard floating around to help with this is to start with a niche. If you can identify a specific type of company that overvalues what your product offers, not only will it be an easier sell, but more importantly you will be able to look them up!
"Anyone who needs to test" can't be put into LinkedIn. "Software companies in <my city> that have an in-house development team of at least 30 people" can be.
Best of luck!
Great note, Kevin! And I agree 100%. The "persona" modeling is too broad. I'm focusing on UX/Research teams and MKTG Agencies. They are the ones who feel the pain more than anyone.
If you want to give it a try, let me know and I'll hook you up. I would love your thoughts :)
