Idea feedback

Hello community!

I've been looking around for a while and it looks like it's a time to start posting.

I have a dream to start my own small company as a side project to be able to develop the things I want the way I want. Maybe this is kind of ego-centric shit. But anyways I think that the developer who is able to write code should learn how to sell, do marketing, get clients, research market and the only way to do that is to start some project.

The idea

I was trying to buy some goods for my parents while they are living in another county. The problem that the only way of doing customer support for the shop was the phone. And the problem that to be able to call the shop I need to buy Skype credits and call them. Shitty...

Another point as that I always hear that the new communication channels are the everything for the sales since I'm working fulltime in a company which helps to do sales.

Then just an assumption that as a small business I don't wanna buy a toll-free number and sometimes it would be great to use my own phone to let the customers contact me.

  • Why don't let the website\business owners to let theirs customers call them right from the website.
  • For free for their customers.
  • Using the personal phone number with an ability to hide it.
  • With cheap pricing for website owners.

So the idea: call-from-web-widget-link. Pretty strange because you can tell this is more or less implemented already. And you'll be right, but the pricing is a little bit high as well as all current implementations more related to the web-call-centers not for the simple widget.

I want to give my users an ability to add their phone number to the service. Then you can create multiple project out of these numbers. For instance you can create project "My super selling web shop".

Then the user will be able to get the widget associated with this project. And simply put it in his web site code to show the widget to his customers.

From the widget customers will be able to call the phone of the user right from the website. They will be able to request the callback with some note to ask the web site owner to call them back. Then I'm thinking of maybe it makes sense to let record voice message right from the widget but I'm not sure that it brings any value. If the user want, that's possible to specify the setting to allow anyone who see the widget see the phone number as well. So it's up to you hide or show your personal phone numbers.

Another use case is the link attached to the number. Just give it you your parents if they are abroad and they will be able to call any number attached to the link to be able to reach you.

Another use case is the integrations. Feel free to use the API in order to generate unique links for your customers database and then it will be so much easy to track who is calling you.

Another use case is CRM integrations. Log any call activity to the CRM you're using.

Actually a lot of ideas in my head but none of them are proven that the market requires them.

Implementation

I'm some kind of solo developer who has the full-time job. So progress is not going that fast and the UI still shitty. Just wanna share some screens with you.

What's done:

  • Admin panel with registration and ability to add phone numbers
  • Project creation
  • API for widgets
  • Links creation
  • Calls from the links
  • Numbers management

Im progress:

  • Landing
  • Payment system
  • Widget UI and logic

Second part of backlog:

  • Callbacks
  • Voice messages
  • Integrations with CRMs and other systems

Questions

  • What is your opinion?
  • How to test the market?
  • Do you know someone who will use this?
  • Do you want to help me build the product?

Thanks for listening me! Feel free to DM me here if you'll have any question!

Please do some research. These things exist.

      actually here they are

      https://www.mightycall.com
      https://www.freecallinc.com
      https://justcall.io/
      https://toky.co/en
      https://aircall.io/

That's fun but I can't call some of them from the website or request the callback as well.

      Yep you are right!
      The problems here are:

      • They are more call centres.
      • The pricing is a bit high.
      • Why not create another one if they are exists means that some market needs it!

Good points, @DeferRun! What you'll want to do is ensure that there's a true opportunity. So, just as Google didn't invent AdWords (Overture did this years prior), and didn't invent the search engine, of course, they saw opportunities to do things far better. Just please ensure that the opportunity is there.

For example, I was itching to do a better videochat product, but considering that Slack, Amazon, Google, Skype, GoToMeeting and other big players have strong products, while I saw opportunities for minor improvements, I put the thought to do this to rest with the realization that, aside from business meetings (already done well with Amazon, Skype, GoToMeeting), for non-business uses, people do not pay to make friends in videocalls. They pay for sex opportunities. I have no problem with this - but I don't want to get into that arena.

Thanks a lot for your advice!
