There's something I've been wondering about, I have a side-project I'm working on, it doesn't solve any real business problem, it's just something that I would like to play with.
Now I wonder, how is it possible for someone to ever think of bigger ideas then his/her own pains? Thinking up Saas products that solve small business problems becomes hard, when you don't have a small business.
Are there methods of getting outside of your own circle? Or are we stuck in our own circle forever?
Your lived experience is always the easiest. But, talking to people and using forums like this to identify pain points are great resources. I am consistently surprised at how generous people are with time and ideas if you ask in the right way. Over my professional life I have bought many cups of coffee in return for the chance to pick someone's brain. And, people are often happy to talk in detail about their lives and businesses. But, I've always chosen people I know or who are a good aquatence of someone I know for an introduction.
Interesting! how do you decide what people to talk to? Do you listen to the problems your friends/relatives have at work, for example? In the end it still doesn't show problems that a whole group might have, but I guess it's a step in the right direction
A part of it is just actively listening and being open to what is around you. Our business started from a comment a friend made heading out for a drink. But something in what they said just resonated and from there we ran with it. Ask good questions and followup questions, follow cool threads of conversation, and listen some more.
That's solid advice! Thank you.
