Idea Validation: a 365 project to help you build consistent behaviour

Hi there fellow indiehackers,

I quit my job and went freelancing 2 months ago. Since then I’ve been thinking of side projects ideas and get feedback for them from people. Nothing materialised and that led to some self reflection. The conclusion is that I lack consistency and that’s how I come up with Wroteapost.

What is it?
Wroteapost is a 365 project. What’s a 365 project? It’s a challenge to do something every single day, usually for a year. Wroteapost is a writing challenge. It’s about documenting every day with a single post and helps you become consistent in something.

How it works?

  • Write down your thoughts every day. That sounds simple, right?
  • Every day, publish one post to Wroteapost. Just ONE.
  • Repeat it for a whole year. Try not to miss a day.

What’s the point?
I believe this formula helps you to improve your self-discipline and develop a daily habit. One day at a time.

Hmm, I still don’t get it

  • I see Wroteapost being a community of individuals that wants to build a habit and stick with it.
  • You can read other people’s posts and give them a like.
  • Wroteapost it’s not about being in competition with others, but with yourself and that’s why you can only see the number of likes on your own posts.

Would it be paid?
Yes, Wroteapost would be a paid platform (something menial like a 7$/month type of charge).

Why?

  • Make you more motivated to keep building the habit
  • Keep away trolls
  • Keep the lights on

So, what do you think? Would you like to be part of Wroteapost community? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

    Hey Alin,

I like the spirit of this but thought there were already tools like it. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Certainly, aside from going to the gym or meditating, daily writing does seem to be one of the most popular habits that people aspire to.

One issue I see with positioning it as a 365 project, is that it immediately makes me think of January 1st. So (again like gyms) it's likely to be very seasonal: you'd have to do a lot of marketing around the end of the year when people are contemplating their resolutions for the coming year. I don't see myself starting a 365 project in June, for example.

I think that for $7 USD, people would still not commit. Why? Because it doesn't hurt. The part about having a simple task to do everyday is cool though. But it is pretty similar to the daily stand-ups here, except you don't pay for it.

I think if you really want to develop discipline then, you need to find someone you can be accountable to — like a coach.

I paid about $3k for a coaching program and boy it sure makes me take action everyday. Not only I pay for the accountability part, but for the actual coaching — I get advice on my blindspots, I get scolded when I need to, and I get the right guidance to for the specific problems or doubts I may have.
