Idea Validation - honest feedback request

Hey IH,

Some time ago by mistake i booked a flight for my personal vacation on top of my company tech summit. I had the summit in my Google Calendar, but while looking for the best rate, time, and direct flight i ended up booking the flight exactly on top of the event.

My Idea: develop a chrome extension, give the possibility to login trough Google, add and sync desired calendars.
While inputting dates on the Website like kayak, skyscanner, booking.com etc, if the user picked an overlapping dates with a calendar event show an alert that can be dismissed.

Option 2: Add an indication in the dropdown calendar from the input form, so it will be easy to pick the correct date.

What do you think? Do any of you use something similar already ?

Thank you !
R

    Hey RubenV,

Try to research this in some frequent flyer communities. There's tons of travel, business travel, digital nomad, etc communities (e.g. facebook groups).

Start with the problem, do not offer them the solution (yet)! It's too easy to get in love with the solution that you came up with. But you really need to understand the problem first.

E.g. I'd literally just describe what happened to you and ask if anyone had the same problem and if they found any solutions to avoid this. People love to complain about their problems :)

Hope this helps as a first step.

Thank you ! Indeed is worth to raise and discuss the problem with the relevant target audience.

      Thanks for the feedback!

Oh another thing. The reason I'm telling you to ask in those communities is because that's where your target audience probably is :)

As indie hackers we're not necessarily the best audience to validate this. I traveled quite a bit (probably 200-300 flights in the last few years) and this hasn't happened to me, but I'm an overly-organize planner by nature 🙄
