Idea validation: Is note-taking while listening to Podcasts too cumbersome?

I often want to capture insights, ideas, and other thoughts while listening to podcasts. Currently, I do so in the iOS notes app, but there are many reasons why this solution is sub-optimal. That's why I want to build an app that allows you to do just that without having to switch from Overcast to another podcast player like Airr. Do you face similar issues? Would love to hear from you, if the answer is yes.

I thing to consider is people often listen to podcasts while doing something else like driving, walking, etc. One option would be to have one touch bookmarking which can then be used to create notes when you get home.

I like that. Something along those lines is already possible with shortcuts on iOS, but there's certainly room to build on top of that.

I usually try to locate a transcript of the podcast if available, but I end up forgetting most of the time since I usually listen to podcasts while driving to work. I would definitely use a tool that allowed me to easily archive/bookmark snippets somehow.

Do you know Airr? It seems to be exactly the app you want to build. https://www.nateliason.com/blog/podcast-highlighting-airr-readwise

Are you a user of Airr?

      1. 1

Yes and I like it so far.

Hey Jakob. I do know Airr. However, what I'm thinking of building is like an aggregator of notes from different podcast players. I'm thinking of building on top of existing players, not replace them. My hypothesis is that switching costs for podcast players are too high.

This may sound silly, but I like to do note-taking with little drawings or diagrams. Mainly I use paper and draw little icons /images as the podcast goes on. It's far easier to jot down than a quote.

    1. 1

Interesting. When you draw these icons/images are they typically a synopsis of the podcast itself, or are they a representation of a thought/inspiration inspired by the podcast?

      1. 1

        represents thoughts.
