Idea validation: let online businesses accept art as payment

The news about Polestar accepting art as a payment option for its Polestar 1, got me thinking if it would be cool to see this for lower scale merchants as well.

The high level idea is to make a Stripe/Mollie/<enter your favorite payment gateway> like API to redirect the customer to a validation platform. If the work is accepted, have it shipped to my company who buys it from the merchant.

As I set the upper limit much much much lower, there will be less need for verification.

The only big hurdle I can see so far, is the physical shipment of the art.

This scenario might not be possible, especially for SMEs, as art prices depend on their valuation. Also, they need to resell the art as they need cash as payment. Therefore, I think it possible that small merchants welcome cryptocurrency instead of art / NFTs.

I think it will be to easy to get scammed and I think the market for this will be extremely small. On the other hand maybe it could work with NFTs, since this also doesn’t need shipment.

I have no experience with NFTs btw, just an idea, maybe it’s not even possible
