Ideas on marketing?

Hey everyone, I am looking for a couple of ideas on marketing. As we can see these days, marketing plays a big role in our life. Will be nice to hear from people who are working in the marketing industry.

Thanks

I don't have any expertise in marketing but here is some resource that might help:

Are you using it for B2B or B2C?

I have been doing online marketing for almost 17 years and currently, I have been playing with TikTok ads. It is a fun and intensive platform for sure. Figuring out how the algo works is interesting to me and the results are actually pretty amazing.

There seem to be more action takers on TikTok but also the fact that TikTok algo is very intersting to me.. it isn't like any ad platform. If TT decides your ad isn't good, it just stops serving, where all other ad platforms will try to spend your money.

      oh thats interesting. thank you

For https://atomcal.com/?src="ih" I have built an engine of growth where a changelog is generated, scheduled, and published every Tuesday automatically based on code commits made that week. This is done using CMS APIs and discord bots.

I think pushing more content improves the SEO and also keeps the existing users engaged. Besides the changelog, the bots also publish feature blog posts based on the commit messages too. Such that every feature is discoverable and announced.

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions :)

EDIT: After re-reading your post, I'm not sure if you were asking for software ideas for marketing, or ideas on how to market an existing product that you have. I was thinking about the first one, but if you're looking for advice on marketing, I actually just released a free, 2,000+ word guide on community outreach that sounds like exactly what you (maybe) are looking for!

    ---

Marketing is a HUGE space! What aspect of marketing are you most interested in?

Here are some of the recent marketing opportunities we've written about at Software Ideas:

    1) A weekend project that converts existing blog posts into high-quality Twitter threads.
    Issue 88, opportunity #1

This one is a really simple product for companies that already write blog posts but want to add Twitter-formatted versions of them. The process of doing so is usually very manual, since Twitter has a 280-character limit per Tweet, so it's not as simple as copy-pasting.

The approach here is to use AI to figure out how to optimally word each tweet, making the process automatic.

    2) A "software demo" solution for top-of-funnel marketing.
    Issue 72, opportunity #1

As software has become cloud-based, demos are becoming an increasingly popular way of showing leads the product and getting them into a sales meeting.

This idea is about making it easy for SaaS companies to create self-serve demo environments so users on a landing page can immediately get a feel for the software, while avoiding some of the challenges in this market around setting up sandbox environments and the like.

    3) An influencer marketing solution for SaaS companies.
Issue 68, opportunity #3 (preview link)

Influencer marketing is becoming an increasingly important channel for modern internet marketing and advertising. It used to be that influencers were mostly associated with eCommerce, but market is starting to grow beyond that.

This opportunity is about building an influencer marketing solution that targets companies that have no idea how to go about building an influencer marketing program. By removing the barriers to starting with this marketing channel, the idea is that you can compete against existing tools that aren't quite as easy to get started with.

    4) A No-Code tool that lets marketers build "Engineering-as-Marketing" tools for their company.
Issue 60, opportunity #1 (preview link)

Another recent marketing channel is Engineering-as-Marketing, which sounds fancy but just means building small tools that act as lead magnets.

Compared to other marketing channels where the marketing team are the ones in charge of it, the downside to EaM is that the development team has to be involved in building and maintaining the product.

This idea is about building a No-Code tool for marketing teams so that they can regain ownership of the marketing channels.

    5) An API-as-a-service for hosting giveaways and sweepstakes.
Issue 59, opportunity #1 (preview link)

Lastly, this one is pretty self-explanatory: build an API that makes it easy to host giveaways and sweepstakes of any product across any (major) social media platform.

Giveaways are one of the best ways to drive new interest and awareness of a product or company, but the friction of getting started drives a lot of companies away from them.

This idea is about focusing on developer-friendliness and appealing to companies by saving development time and simplifying the process.

Hopefully, one of those matches what you were looking for in the bigger "marketing" category. If not, let me know what area of marketing you're most interested in and I'll see if we have any opportunities in that sub-category!

    Hope that helps!

thats a good, thank you. I will read everything. I am looking for ideas in marketing to build a software, something that people will need.

  6. 1

I am not working in the marketing industry. But what worked for me in the past was using my network, demonstrating the product and asking for referrals.

The 2nd thing that worked was an article about us in a technology magazine.

I have a draft blog post about the general vicinity, I am not yet finished, but don't mind you read: Bootstrapping is Possible - Marketing and Selling the Demo

cool, I will have a look, thank you. I am looking to build tools for social media (to help to market the social media industry).

      1. 2

I am not versed in that area but in general you want to reach people which will be potential customers. What I would try is to look in your network for people in these companies and ask them if they would like to give you feedback.
Prepare a deck of slides with real or imaginary screenshots of the product and show it to them. They will give you feedback. If you feel it is going well, ask them how much such a product is worth? (you will be surprised). Then ask them if they want to be in the beta.
I did this in the past without writing a single line of code. It works.

  7. 1

What have you tried? What are you trying to market? and Who is your target market?

If you're selling bananas, you won't market them the same way as a SaaS for teachers. If you're marketing a SaaS for teachers, you won't market it the same way as a SaaS for graphic designers.

Without knowing what you're trying to market it's kind of hard to give you marketing ideas.

    1. 2

      This!
And unlike traditional advertising that is solely focused on getting new customers, you should focus on connecting and engaging with people within your target audience to build long-term relationships. It’s about conversation and the power of making your customers or potential customers feel recognized, heard, and important.

    2. 1

I don't have a product, i am looking for new ideas to build something. Mainly for social media industry. At the moment and in the future social media will be the first point of contact (easy words), but I am trying to see the potential problems that I can solve.

      1. 2

Oh, ok then. This is way more specific. We're getting somewhere.

But you probably need to niche down even more.

Within the social media industry, who do you want to help?

        • Influencers?
        • Solo/small social media management companies?
        • Brands that want to connect with potential customers?

Find who is your target crowd and interact with them. They're going to tell you what are their problems or what they need.

        1. 1

          perfect, thank you. Very useful
