"If you give me two hours of focused time, I can get so much done. But if you give me four times 30 minutes, it's useless. Wasted time. There's no way that I'm going to solve a problem. And if I don't get that stretch of focused time every couple of days, I get really uncomfortable. I need to get into the zone, put some music on, and spend some time really focused on a problem. It's not even about growing in users or revenue. If I can just get into that flow and know that I'm focusing on producing something good, I feel happy. The process itself is rewarding. In my day job, I'm a team leader, which means a lot of distraction. It gets frustrating. And having two little girls at home, my wife and I don't have much time for ourselves. I think everyone with kids experiences that at some point but it's especially difficult if you want to take time for your side project. Sometimes it feels like I'm losing that. But every couple of days, I'll find some time to just focus, and I'm happy with that."
Agreed, I've been reserving my mornings for focused work & trying to make sure my sales calls are in the afternoon and preferably back-to-back to avoid switching costs.
