If you haven't tried Webflow yet, you need to right now.

I recently built designjoy.co with Webflow (without knowing how to code worth a dime).

I'm constantly amazed by how few people know about it, so I'm making it my mission to change that.

Check it out and let me know if you have any questions: https://webflow.com/

I’m sure Webflow is great... for a designer.

I tried using Webflow in the past but I was so frustrated with it that I went back to WordPress and Elementor.

Unless you spend hours watching their tutorials I find it too difficult to use for a beginner.

    1. 2

I agree. Webflow has too much options for designing a page which leads to too much complexity. It's faster than writing HTML in terms of designing a beautiful landing page, but not enough easier for everyone.

      1. 1

I agree. I wouldn't ever call learning Webflow "easy." But with more power comes more complexity. Once you learn the ropes, you're able to build essentially any front-end interface you wish.

  2. 5

Yup, Webflow is pretty d*mn impressive.

Here are some other great page builders that allow you to set up a professional looking site fast (sometimes even within minutes, seriously):

It is built for designers, and is amazing for them.

Most founders I speak with have similar opinions to this https://twitter.com/bennydigital_/status/1219027224663248896

You make Hue look so pretty! I'm using webflow for thegoodstartup.com, and I just feel like everything is off and I don't know what to do with it because it's sometimes frustrating to edit the design :/

    1. 2

I think your site looks good! Maybe go on dribble and find some fonts, colors, and layouts you like as information and try and plug that into your site.

      1. 1

Ooh I will check that out, thank you!

  5. 2

How did you get the animations on there?

I just created my landing page in Webflow and I feel that it could use a little bit more..."liveliness" (https://tutorial-marketplace.webflow.io/). It seems pretty bland right now.

I liked using Webflow and I'm a developer myself. I'm just a bit concerned with the pricing plans since they seem to be a bit expensive.

    1. 1

How long did it take you to build the landing page?

      1. 1

Eh, with a lot of distractions, it took me most of Sunday (with the majority of it spent trying to figure out the copy). I already knew about the concepts of sections, containers, and divs, plus the CSS stuff like padding and margins, so it was pretty easy for me to get on-boarded. Unsure I'll stick with them for the long-term though.

        1. 2

Yeah copy is difficult. I spend so much time on it.

Nice, with all them options I get lost. I rather be in the code instead.

    2. 1

If you're referring to my icons, those were built in After Effects and saved as .JSON through Lottie. However, Webflow has a very robust interaction engine which can be easily learned here: https://university.webflow.com/courses/interactions-and-animations-course

Hue had far more interactions built in Webflow previously but it really took its tole on load times, so just be careful and keep an eye on that.

      1. 2

Yep, those are what I was referring to. They make the website look a whole lot more sophisticated! I'll definitely check out the interactions course, but I'll keep the load times in mind as well. Thanks for this!

  6. 2

I am developer and have to agree with other, I wasn't impressed by Webflow.

      1. 1

It was not easy to use, Idk. Somehow it didn't "click" for me.

  7. 1

Your site looks incredible! I'm a huge Webflow fan myself.

Can you tell me what integrations you utilized for your credit-card checkout? It's very smooth.

  8. 1

You're pretty skillful in using Webflow. @brettwill1025

What's your plan to take Designjoy forward?

  9. 1

When you're ready to build an app with some real functionality, head over to NoCo.io :). Or if you get tired of designing.

  10. 1

What is the advantage of paying a monthly fee for webflow vs using a WordPress theme/block editor to achieve the same result?

Note: I keep getting spammed with webflow ads, and to be honest the ads are just bad (they show a dev editing minified code vs a dev using their block editor), so I am not really a fan of the company.

    1. 2

Can't really speak for their marketing strategies, only to the tool itself. I think we tend to lean towards what we're familiar with. I'm not familiar with Wordpress. When I tried to set up a website there, it was very overwhelming when you start getting involved with hosting, working with templates, etc.

I would consider Webflow a sleeker, more intuitive visual website builder compared to Wordpresss, which has a pretty archaic backend interface. Webflow's interface is in line with modern design tools like Sketch, Figma, and Adobe which makes it far more enjoyable for me to work in.

I also like the fact that I have no real restrictions. I'm not tied to a template or what blocks are available to me. I can build virtually any block in a matter of minutes in most cases.

Add in the fact that they have a superior interactions engine that is insanely powerful and you can't go wrong.

Is it for everyone in every use case? Absolutely not. No product is. But for me, I can't dream of a better website builder. And the fact they recently raised $72M, it's hard to imagine what's next.

  11. 1

Ummmm WOW. Came here to disagree, but instead I'm just blown away with the Hue website. You've done an incredible job.

Maybe I'll need to revisit Webflow.

Any chance you tracked how much time you spent building this?

    1. 2

Haha too funny. I built the homepage on a Saturday, but I've since tweaked things and built it out further from there. I'd say a total of about 12 hours thus far.

    2. 1

Following up to say that I can't scroll down on the sign-up page. I can see the "Next" button but it's almost entirely cut off. 13inch Macbook Pro, Chrome.

      1. 1

Ah, darn it. You're right. It's fixed now - thanks for pointing that out. :)

  12. 1

I just tried using webflow this morning to see if it would help me build a marketing site faster so I can just focus on coding my app.

The UI was very overwhelming to start off. I was hoping I wouldn't need to learn a ton about how to use it. For now, it feels like I would be much faster just coding up a website.

I have experience building websites so it's definitely a paradigm shift. How did you learn how to use it?

    1. 2

Heard the same thing from many founders/marketers.

I built https://versoly.com/ to be best off both worlds, and if you already know some code it is an amazing experience due to the in-built code editor.

      Would love your feedback.

    2. 2

Totally understood. I felt the exact same way. But Webflow has EXCELLENT tutorials for just about everything. Plus, Webflow commonly rebuilds popular websites (Tesla, Apple, etc.) and live streams them on their Facebook page. It's hard because they don't ignore divs, float, margin, padding, etc. But in turn, it allows you to build just about any front-end experience you can imagine. I recommend sticking with it. I can build my homepage at gethue.co in about 2 hours or less with my experience. It's an amazing tool if you can get over the hump of learning the interface.

      1. 1

That's awesome to hear! I'll try giving it some more time.

  13. 1

@brettwill1025 This is a beautiful page. I can't sing the praises of Webflow enough! I built my sales page using it as well: thelogopackage.com

I think you might have some use for my tool since you seem to run a productized design business. Do you get a lot of requests for logos?

    1. 1

      I'm guessing you're a designer? :)

      1. 1

Yes, but I also know HTML and CSS. For me, getting exactly what I want is easier to do with a visual UI than coding, but I could also code the pages I have created.

I'm a proponent of Webflow if you are building sites for clients. It has a super easy CMS and you can do eCommerce as well. No brainer for web designers, really.

    2. 1

Definitely going to look into your product more. I love anything that takes a tedious task and automates it. Great work. :)

      1. 1

Awesome! Feel free to email me and we can chat about how Logo Package Express might help your business :)

  14. 1

I'm sure you put a lot work to it. Personally I prefer Tilda.cc because it is faster and easier (there is a code export). But Webflow might be a good option to start with and export the code for a later custom development.

  15. 1

Haven't checked out webflow yet but must say that I absolutely love the gethue site. It's fun, interactive and peaks my interest without feeling too childish or messy. Well done!

    1. 1

Wow, thanks. :) I really appreciate that comment because that's precisely what I was aiming for.

  16. 1

Interesting. I'm in a stage of finding a codefree tool. What you built there with Webflow is impressive. Nice work!

How did you also add signup and login - was that from webflow?

    1. 1

      Thanks a lot!

For account management, I used Memberstack. It's a tool built for Webflow to handle subscription management, hidden content for members only, etc. Highly recommend it.

      1. 1

I have not come across this. This is much closer to what I've been looking for. However, it looks like I have to use their entire UI - is there a way I can build my own login form in html and then use their service to magically turn that self built login form into a real login (and signup) form? Do you happen to know?

        1. 2

I can only speak in regards to Webflow, but the only piece of UI I believe you have to use is the payment module and forgot password module. Your sign up/login forms can be completely custom, as are mine.

  17. 1

Nice one, who did the illustrations on that page?

    1. 1

I did everything on the page. I had to learn a bit of After Effects for the icons but with the help of tutorials, it wasn't so bad.

Aside from learning Sketch, it was the single best decision I have made for my career. I didn't even design Hue first. I designed it in Webflow as I went along because it's so quick. Obviously I've had a lot of experience with Webflow, but that shows its possible. All the tools are there.
