If You Use AI For Content Marketing You're Screwed

Let's face it, most indiehackers have neither the time nor the desire to spend what can sometimes be hours creating content to market their products.

As such, it's sooo tempting to use AI to do the content creation for us.

With little effort, you can easily and quickly create an almost unlimited supply of content.

But, if you do this, you're screwed.

Why?

Because the whole point of content creation is to grow your business.

And creating tons of content using AI is the WORST way to do this.

To understand this, let's look at why content marketing exists as a strategy in the first place.

Why Content Marketing Exists As A Strategy In The First Place

Only a tiny percentage (around 1%) of any business's target market is actively looking to buy the product it sells.

But very few business can rely on these "active buyers" for growth.

This is because:

a) they are incredibly hard to find (or too expensive to reach with paid advertising)

b) there aren't enough of them to sustain a business

Instead, most businesses need to be able to sell to the overwhelming majority of their target audience that isn't actively looking to buy right now - there are a LOT of them and they are very easy to find and reach (they are anywhere that the business's target audience hangs out).

But pitching/talking about the product the business sells is completely useless - the 99% will simply ignore this kind of message because they just aren't in the market right now to buy.

And this is why content marketing was created.

Creating educational content on the topic of the business’s expertise (email marketing for an email marketing software company for example), a business is able to do two things:

a) capture the attention of the 99% (as the business isn’t putting its product in front of them) and stay front of mind until they are ready to buy

b) position itself as the leading expert on the topic

By positioning itself as the leading expert on the topic, it makes it very likely that the 99% will end up buying from the company rather than its competitors as we ALL prefer to buy from those that we perceive as the experts and authority on a subject.

And this is why using AI for content marketing is a bad strategy.

Let me explain why.

And This Is Using AI For Content Marketing Is A Losing Strategy

The internet is already saturated with more content that you can shake a stick at.

The only way for content marketing to really work as intended in such an environment is to create MORE.

In other words, a company needs to be able to “out content” their competitors - flooding the market with their content so it drowns out their competitor’s.

The sheer volume of content drowns out competing content and gives the illusion that this company is the leading expert on the topic.

This is of course incredibly ineffective but, for those with the skill, time and/or money, it can work quite well.

However, Artificial Intelligence has killed this strategy.

Thanks to AI everybody can flood the market with just as much content as their competitors.

Whereas before, company X might have been the only one in the market capable of pumping out 2 new pieces of content a day, now thanks to AI, all of its competitors can also do the same (and more!).

Instead, to thrive in the new AI era - companies need to focus on quality instead of quantity.

What Do We Mean By 'Quality'?

What exactly that is, what that looks like and how to create it yourself is detailed in the rest of the post which you can find right here - https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/your-startup-screwed-uses-ai-content-marketing-chris-monk
