If your startup would ever fail, would you start all over again? 😇
As you know, unfortunately, the vast majority of startups fail, so the likelihood of yours failing is high too. Investors always keep asking me whether I have ideas I would work on if Salesforge would ever fail and it got me thinking.
For me, it would be building an advertising network for SaaS companies.
If your startup didn't survive, would you start over again, and if yes, in what space and what would the problem you would tackle?
I think an advertising network for SaaS products would be great.
There's a lot of products which do similar things slightly differently. This could be good or bad, but things that help make it better would be if SaaS owners had clear visions and knew their specific sub-segments well enough to avoid stepping on each other's toes.
For end users, this could be good because it helps them find products which are more suited for their needs, rather than settling on the big name solution because "that's what everyone uses".
So maybe if this ad network could do both, help SaaS owners differentiate and guide end users to products that are best for them, that would be great!
I'm currently in the "Service" recruiting boutique business. I do tech headhunting for tech startups that want tech talent in Latin America.
It's going great! We're making 10-15k USD per month, and I just have 1 contractor helping me out.
That said, I use 70-80% of the money to pour into new ideas I have for recruiting SaaS tools, like job boards, chrome extensions, web tools, etc.
I love opening up that new Google doc, pouring my ideas into it, starting an SDD (Software Design Description), and idea validation with my network.
I haven't had a "successful" up-and-running SaaS, but I will soon.
And if I would do everything all over again for a new idea?
Everything I learn? The dopamine I feel on building something new? Domain shopping? Looking for a new contractor to help me build it?
HELL YEAH!
I will definitely reach my goal of an indie hacker status with my service & saas business!

Forgot to respond to your last question, I would probably start getting my feet wet with fintech and start something there.
Failure is part of the process. The most wealthiest person I know failed 5 times in a row. Optimize and try again.
I'm not in a similar situation as you are so I cannot say what I would do in your shoes, but I'm currently working on my 1st startup, bootstrapped. I have a regular 9 to 5 which I dread and use it as a motivation to work on my startup after hours. I am aware most of the startups fail and I'm okay with that if mine fails too. I'm not expecting it to be successful on my 1st try all I want to do is learn as much as I can from it and so far I've picked up some invaluable skills and lessons that I would've never learnt otherwise.
So to answer your question yes, I would definitely do it all over again. It's cost me my social life, but you know what its well worth it if I can have a chance to work for myself and be the captain of my own ship.
My startup is currently in development being a solopreneur with a 9 to 5 makes it hard for me to put out as much as I can and being new at this I have a long road ahead of me, my startup focuses on the education sector. And honestly I think education sector is what I would do if I had to start over again.
