"I guess I had a certain view of how things were going to go and I thought I would have my mom for longer. She passed away a year and a half ago pretty unexpectedly. I’m not married yet and I don’t have any kids. The thing that I always think about is, like... I always thought my mom would be there to meet my kids and be at my wedding. That’s the craziest part. It’s so weird because I have to imagine all those things without her now. It’s a challenge every single day. It's changed me. All of a sudden it feels like anything and everything could be taken away from me at any time, even things I love. And I'm trying to get comfortable with that. It’s taught me that life is not necessarily going to work out how I planned it, which I think is a valuable lesson. Because until you’ve had bad stuff happen to you, it feels like everything will always work out. And it will. But maybe not the way you thought.”
I'm sorry you lost your mom. I lost mine unexpectedly just over two years ago. It's been strange to occasionally see her in a dream when she is no longer around. I'm not sure I'll ever truly wrap my head around it, but the sadness does fade.
