I really need an accountability partner. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accountability_partner)
In the past I've committed myself to do things, and if the only person it affects is me, I tend to just default to watching Neflix.
I'm committing to build and launch one project every month this year, and I need an accountability partner (if they're from IH, all the better).
I'd obviously be willing to keep my counterpart accountable for their IH-related goals.
Perhaps it'd even be an interesting 'service' to be built into IH?
EDIT:
For people coming to this thread, please do look at Jess' thread which is newer and has more tips:
https://www.indiehackers.com/forum/how-do-you-stay-motivated-and-accountable-when-youre-an-indie-worker-98bdae113b?commentId=-L2smHY38eLodl59Qmqh
I'm actually considering building something like this into IH. If I decide to, it'll probably be a while.
In addition to the excellent groups that Louis suggested, I also recommend posting about your plans and progress on the forum every now and then. For example, I would love to hear about your project ideas for the year. You could make a thread asking for feedback and suggestions.
That's a good idea - thanks.
I think at the end of Jan I'll make a thread with my plans for Feb's project :)
You could try https://wip.chat/ . I haven't used it before but some friends of mine are quite active on there.
Otherwise, there is a weekly stand-up chat on https://solofoundersteam.slack.com/ - the slack group itself is dormant, however the weekly standup is pretty good and we hold each other to account and offer feedback/advice.
Don't like wip.chat, it costs money to use. I am pinching pennies to make this whole indie hacker thing work..
There's weshipped.com also which is free, but there's no real feedback loop.
Awesome Louis,
Thanks for those :)
Is finding an accountability partner a way to stop you from working on your first project? ;) Just kidding, but seriously - start NOW. If you want to do 1 a month you got to be ruthless and start shipping!
I'm up for a regular call if you or anyone else here wants to get started on this!
Hey Helen, we're gathering a crew - If you'd still like to be involved, could you ping me an email to joe [at] apiconsole.io so I can add you to the chain please?
Done! :)
Haha, I have spent the last 2 days working on my project for this month (https://apiconsole.io) - I just need to keep the momentum!
Maybe @swlkr would be interested in joining a call? (I reckon a group call of up to 5 people would work well)
I'm planning to do the same as well. Maybe we can help each other. My twitter handle is @aram_eg . Let's talk!
Hi Joseph! Can I apply to be your accountability partner? Shoot me an email: bensheldon [at] gmail.com
Sure Ben!
I'll add you to the email chain (we've got a couple of people so far).
I'm planning on recording the sessions - I think they might be helpful for other people for a couple of reasons:
That’s funny I’m going to do the same thing, “the 12 startups in 12 month challenge”
Oooh, it has a name?! :)
How's it going for you? What're you working on this month?
Haha @levelsio did it first, I’m just stealing it, like a great artist would
I’m working on http://outsidelist.com this month. It’s a list of the most inspiring outdoor places you can go, most of the time with little to no cell service. Another rip off of nomadlist. I have no shame.
Haha, not a 'rip-off' - 'inspired by'!
Sweet! Do you support the UK?
Would you be up for joining a group accountability call? Looks like @helenryles is up for it too.
Yeah I’m up for it.
