I'm about to launch, can you roast my page and launch strategy?

Jsc @jsco

http://lookup.design/

I tried to go for "show don't tell", eg you immediately try the search, see some good results and then are pushed to pay to see everything. Curious what you guys think about it.

I plan on launching on Reddit on Sunday, get some feedback from users and then launch on IH on Tuesday.

I'm also a bit worried about my pricing, it feels like my tool doesn't actually do that much but I also know that underpricing is a classic IH mistake soI decided to go for pretty default pricing first and make it cheaper in case it doesn't work.

    First two impressions:

    1. Make results easier to read and bigger: I tried searching for different keywords but didn't find any results or some low quality results (eg: header, logo, sidebar). I think the problem is the presentation, everything is too tiny and includes too much clutter. If I search for "logo" I want to only see logos. If I search for sidebar, I expect to clearly see the sidebars without having to click on each image individually.

    2. Pricing was confusing at first ($9.99 on the left, $4.99 in center, $89 on the right). Not having them sorted is weird. Also, one offer is "ONLY AVAILABLE AT LAUNCH" another one "LIMITED TIME ONLY" and only the yearly one has "Lightning fast search".

      already fixed the second point!

The first point is a good one but a tough one to crack. I also want to see the components in their respective context and since some components are very long (like nav) and some are very tall (like sidebar) it's very hard to find a good middle ground.

I thought about ditching the grid and instead just showing all the images below each other or let the users decide on the type of layout, do you think that would be better?

      Thanks for the feedback!

As a founder who lacks design knowledge and service,
Interesting concept. This could become big.

I wanted to search something related to expert marketplace UI but I guess the database is limited. So I can't comment too much.

    1. 1

what kind of exact search term did you try looking for?

  3. 1

Correct me if I'm wrong, you have 808 items not 1000+.

Pricing kinda confusing I thought there are two different packages, but one of them is the annual subscription, which offers "Lightning fast search" as an extra? :)

If you are serious about this project don't rely on algolia much. Focus on finding an alternative solution.

I saw this on pttrns first. https://pttrns.com/subscriptions but they were free for a long time.

There are some images with bad resolutions and some images should be displayed in full length like those banners/navbars (or should be taken from mobile).

I'm also a bit worried about my pricing, it feels like my tool doesn't actually do that much

Your tool is a tool, it might not offer that much right now but if you add quality content over time, it worth more.

    Good luck.

1100 in my main index, I'll put that live tomorrow I think :p

      Pricing kinda confusing

Good point, I just put it there because I didn't have enough points but it feels kind of useless now that I think about it

      don't rely on algolia much

Why's that? it's fast and pretty cheap, at least from what I can tell.

Thanks for the feedback, definitely some things to think about!

Hey Jesco, I've been following your website for awhile now and it has really evolved. 👍

I tried to go for "show don't tell", eg you immediately try the search, see some good results and then are pushed to pay to see everything.

Yes, I think that's great. Helps the potential customer get straight to the content and if they don't want to, they can scroll down for more information.

For the pricing, the numbers are good but I don't understand why the "yearly plan" is $4.99/ a month. Shouldn't it be for every year?

Other than that, I think it's great. Wish you the best of luck on your launch! 😀

      Thanks!
Yeah it's 4.99 a month but billed yearly, I'll clarify that in the pricing 👍

Ok that makes sense. Do you plan to launch on ProductHunt?

        1. 1

yeah but I have to wait a bit for my account to become active so I'll launch on some other platforms first

Ok sounds good! If you ever need help with UI/design/Figma I'd be happy to help :)

Wish you well on your endeavours!
