I'm at a crossroads: Empire or Rebels? Maybe you can help me decide

I'm stuck and could do with some help from the community. Some of you will have insight into one path - building for the enterprise - and others will know about the other - selling to the enterprise.

Here's where I'm at

I've built and AI-powered tool (surprise!) that automates and streamlines a great deal of the 'busy work' for risk and crisis managers. I've also built in a🤖co-pilot so, instead of an expensive human consultant (like me), the AI asks a few pertinent questions and advises you on what you should do in your situation.

So the tools I've built at crisisdojo offer 1) speed and 2) support for risk and crisis managers. They're over 100x faster in some cases and cost a fraction of the current solutions by cutting out the 'busy work' human elements. That is a huge efficiency but also puts these tools into the hands of smaller organizations who otherwise don't have the time or money for this kind of support.

So far, so good. Mission accomplished on solving the problem. 😻

But here's my dilemma

I could go one of two ways and I don't know which is best.

Join the Empire: Build for the enterprise

I've had positive feedback from big businesses who see these tools as a way to augment their existing teams to make them more efficient. That would mean building for the enterprise and everything that comes with that.

Support the Rebels: Build for people selling to the enterprise

The other option is to build tools for small biz / startups that are selling to the enterprise, government, or regulated industries. These bigger contracts often come with some compliance requirements, e.g. including crisis plans and risk assessments, which is what I'm building. I hadn't considered this use -case but it came up at a Microconf meet-up two weeks ago and in a few places subsequently.

Honestly, I'd be excited by the challenge of each, although I think I tend towards helping the small biz / startup community more. But the two paths feel very different and I need to work out where to focus my attention for now. I may have to change lanes at some stage but for now, I'm a bit stuck.

So, if you've built for the enterprise or hit compliance hurdles while selling to the enterprise, I'd love to hear your thoughts. And if you've hit compliance hurdles and can spare 90-second, I made a short survey here.

Many thanks 🙏
