I'm bootstrapping a platform for buying and selling businesses. What would, in your opinion, be essential features?

I'm aware of competitors like Flippa and MicroAcquire.

We'd like to tackle a bigger audience because Flippa is mostly for online businesses and MicroAcquire is for startups.

Not really striving to actually compete with any of them. Just looking for a starting point.

We'd like to provide people with a place to offer their e.g. brick and mortar store, click and mortar, equity in a smaller company, buy an ice cream store, buy a SaaS platform... Whatever they like, no matter the type of business.

(that's kinda our USP)

We're starting from a local community in Serbia and, if the model is validated, expand to the EU... And further beyond.

We used a simple landing page to collect initial interest and it went well so we started beta development.

Our ideas for features are pretty much similar to our competitors:

  • Anonymous publishing, public financial information, business vetting, brokerage, private accounts, private chat and secure information sharing only when buyers/sellers agree. Vetting every business ad and info before publishing to see if it's legit.

(to avoid scams and poor experiences, that's USP 2)

But I'd definitely like to hear more suggestions as to features.

Like, what would be important to you if you were to use a platform like that?

Apart from features, what would you like to see in terms of business education?

Webinars on selling a business, tax consulting, business brokerage, someone to vet if the offer is legit?

Thanks.

It kinda sounds like your average customer wouldn't be an indie hacker user, since there's a heavy focus on online businesses and startups here like you mentioned. Answers from here might drive you in the wrong direction, have you tried talking directly to any brick-and-mortar store owners?

Hey, thanks for the comment. Thanks for pointing it out for me, I see that I might haven't expressed myself clearly enough.

I'm interested in online businesses too. I just had an idea to expand it to offline businesses, but I won't limit the platform as plenty of the businesses are online today.

I've talked to store owners and I've gathered valuable insights (first of all, that there's a demand for stuff like that). And I'd like to gather more insights and ideas from people online.

Any opinion would be of much help.
